Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

2000 Cavalier won't start, making fast clicking sound w/ ignition

I was washing the interior of my car with the radio playing for...maybe a little over an hour? Door open (lights presumably on) and key turned clockwise (forward) once for the radio.

I saw my fuse box while cleaning (the car is a 2000 Chev Cavalier 2.2 Standard Transmission), and I pulled out the back-light fuse to check since the reverse lights weren't working at the time. I put the fuse back, it seemed fine. After cleaning the car I pulled the keys out and went inside to get lunch... came back to and the car wouldn't start.

Now I turn the key and the car makes this really fast "clicking" sound, the dash blinks along with the clicking, and the car can't turn on. The sound is coming from the drivers side of the car.

I haven't a clue whether it's the battery, the starter, the alternator, a relay or a fuse. I'm inclined to think it's not the starter since I never had a problem with it. I thought maybe when i was cleaning it the radio was running and the lights were probably on (the door was open), that maybe the battery is depleted and the starter can't get enough power. But it wont turn over and with the blinking/clicking maybe it seems like a fuse or relay problem.

Low voltage will cause the problem you are having, get the battery charged, and then have the alternator checked for the correct out put,13.65 to 14.25 if it is not in this range give or take a couple of volts, replace it,I would have the battery replaced also,so you won`t have the problem again.Have a shop replace the battery,if you do it yourself, the memory could be erased if certain measures are not performed.

Why cavalier 2000 almost starts but won't what is the problem, battery and starter ruled out

That should be enough gas. Maybe the fuel pump is not working. Turn the key to on- you should hear the buzz or whine of the pump iin the gas tank for about 2 seconds. It should turn on briefly to pressurize the fuel line and then shut off until the car is cranked over. If you don't hear anything from the rear when turning the key to on, the pump may have quit working or power is not getting to it. Occasionally, a pump will still work but not well enough to make sufficient pressure for the fuel injectors to work. To check that, the pressure would have to be tested.
So, listen for the pump. If good, check your ignition by checking for spark at a sparkplug. If no spark, the ignition system will have to be checked and tests run to find the problem. If you have spark and still no go, test the fuel pressure. If pressure is low, replace the fuel filter and re-test.

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. My wife left the radio running with the ignition off for a short while. Now the car won't turn over, won't start, won't jump. There is one click when trying to s

The click you are hearing is most likely the start slenoid making contact, however you should short the large wires @ the solenoid to make certain the starter still doesn't run, if so try tapping the starter with a hammer to shift the comutator a litle and try to start. Even if it now starts the starter will continue to give you problems so the proper fix is change the starter

Car won't start without being charged and when it sits overnight it wont start. makes a clicking noise when trying to start it

Battery is to weak & not holding charge. If the battery does not have enough power the starter will make a fast clicking sound or you will just hear one click.

Car won`t start at all. Just a fast clicking sound from the engine when the ignition key is turned. The lights, radio etc all work fine.

Low battery or bad connection at terminal. Try jumping from a car that's running. If it still doesn't crank, then you have a bad solenoid.

check to make sure yu have 12v at the battery, once you do turn the ignition to start, if nothing, check the fuse and relays that control ignition, if all is good then the click sound is coming from the starter, have the solenoid replace.

does the car crank or not?? if it cranks and doesnt start it could be a couple things. could be fuel pump is bad or could be an ignition problem and ur not gettin spark in ur sparkplugs. if nothing happens when u turn ur key its more than likely that ur starter is bad. if this doesnt help im sorry but this is the only thing i can think of.
