2006 colbalt does not start i was told it needs a throttle

In a 2006 car the throttle doesn't need to be pressed when starting as it will have an auto choke as such. This is engaged automatically on cold start even if your throttle cable has snapped it will still start and if the cables snapped the throttle peddle will be on the floor or will feel different. Does this help

So the problem has been occuring for a year and you are just now trying to fix it? Sorry, I just simply do not understand why people do this...keep driving it until it won't drive anymore even though you KNOW it has a problem....Maybe you can explain this to me???

If you can hear the starter clicking when you try to start it, then you have a bad starter. If it makes no noise at all. then you most likely have a bad clutch switch.

Battery has tested good, lights, radio, etc. are on, but when trying to start, you just get a "tick". Starter?

sounds like it.

Verify battery voltage should be approx 12.30V + give or take a few tenths with the engine off
When you turn over the car, the voltage should not drop below 10.5 volts at all

I would verify these voltages as it takes a lot of juice to turn over a starter and start a motor. I have seen batterys look fine but can't supply a voltage. I assume you have tried jumping your vehicle as well with the donor car running about 2k rpm? If the vehicle starts like this it is most likely a battery issue and not a starter.

Sorry I truly suspect 7 year old batteries a lot more than 7 year old starters. As for the click, the starter is made up of 2 parts, first, it pushes the gear out to engage the flywheel, when the gear is fully out, and engages, the starter starts turning to start the car. The click would be the gear either attempting to engage or engaging and the motor part of the starter failing. The starter will be located in the area of where the transmission and engine mate, usually in the front of the motor. Any autozone should be able to test your starter to ensure it's still good or tell you what failed on it.

Slow to engage in D, but engages readily in lower gears, 1 & 2. Sluggish engagement into Reverse and sometimes requires some throttle. Transmission fluid level and consistency look right. What is the...

It sounds like it is time to service your transmission. Even though your level and fluid looks ok your filter can be dirty (clogged). If you take it to be serviced have them drop your tansmission pan and replace your filter, do not let them talk you into using a procedure that sucks old fluid out and put new in. This will cost you more in the long run.
