Question about 1997 Geo Metro

When car is cold starts right up, after driving for short distances, few miles, won't start, have to wait an hour and then it will start. It turns over, but not getting gas, is it a fuel system problem? It is not over heating and I don't smell any gas fumes.

I have the same problem. Started in 2001. I got lucky and pulled the fuel pump relay, then stuck it back in and it started. I replaced that relay and it worked fine for 7-8 years. Now I am experiencing the same problem. Another forum I read suggested during a cold start, the fuel pump works from the circuit breaker, but after the car is heated up, it works frm the oil pressure? (I didn't understand it) but it went on to say that as the car heats up, the oil thins down and the car won't start. It didn't mention a fix for this. Just try the relay. It's about $30. Maybe they just get weak?

Hello, I have a 1997 Geo metro. My main problem is that it will start up cold and run fine, but after it warms up it runs ruff and will even die on me. I have replaced the fuel filter the fuel pump the fuel relay, an 02 censor and all have failed to make any difference. So I am hoping someone out there might have some ideas for me because this is very frustraiting...

Thank You...

intermittents are sometimes hard to diagnose out !! and this seems as one , im curious though what made them wiggle the relays and fuses ?? was there a previous problem there ?? depending on year of manufacture of car , is weather or not the cars own pcu can help diagnose what made car stop , as later models "remember " what there last condition was that shut off engine , of course this requires diagnostic equipment to see this info that typically car owners don't own , but a qualified service tech does and knows how to use it to find your problem

When she cold she'll go when she hot she won't start, take a hour for her to cold down before starting

I had a car that did that to me, turned out to be the battery. It was getting old and needed replacing. You could clean the contacts for the battery as well, might help a little. My car ran for a hour or more but if I stopped and tried starting shortly after I was toast. Had to wait 45 min. or more to start. Hope this helps.

Car starts ok when cold but acts like it is flooded when warm

Is the check engine light on while you're cranking the engine?

Car won't turn over randomly

When it will not crank, a mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the clutch safety switch, and the key switch.

1993 Toyota Camry won't restart after driving unless waiting hours. The starter doesn't try and it's brand new. It always starts cold and if you don't drive it, you can turn it off and restart it over

Drive 5 miles and starts up fine, drive 30 miles and wont restart

Sounds like a fuel pump overheating. Drive until it wont start then check the fuel pressure. If no gauge when it wont start try some starting fluid. You should also check your fuel pump relay.
