Question about 1995 Buick Regal

1 Answer

**NOTE this is a repost for further help ** in the begining when i touch my window buttons the dash lights flicker, the car sometimes stalls, and fan will turn on and off. then the car would sometimes not start for a while. now the car will not start at all. Comments: Nov 06, 2009 - So after your reply i went and looked at the belt, fuse pannels, alternator, vacume hoses, and ripped open the dash. what i found was a couple of things. not just one. first- the belt has cracks in it. second- the relay for the fule pump has darkened terminals, third- one of the vacume hoses right on the top of the engine was cracked to pieces. its about 4" long. also ill add when i get a boost the car will run for a bit then stall. idk if this is untill the battery drains or if its the fule. last im going to get the alernator tested. Nov 06, 2009 - i went a step father and took out the alternator and had it tested. its good. i had the relays tested they are good. the only thing i cant think now is to test the power leads to all the teminals and comonants and see if anything is grounded out. Nov 14, 2009 - my belt is ok and i have the alternator test. its good. but the car will not stay running if i have a boost. will a dead battery cause this? See less

Check aorund thre fuse box area for loose connection, and signs of overheating caused by poor contact. Measure the voltage to the fuses associated with the ignition system. If they are well below 12 volts, eg 8 volts then there is a poor contact somewhere.

Battery wont charge, battery/ABS/SRS/BRAKE lights come on while driving and flicker. voltage increases to dash lights/fan speed/headlights periodically.

Get a volt meter, start your car and see how many volts your car is producing while running. Should be around 14 volts. May want to watch the meter for a while since your electric seems to fluctuate. Most voltage regulators are internal of your alternator. If you are getting a lot more or less than 14 volts while running, replace the alternator. If it is not charging, voltage will drop as vehicle runs, until battery is dead.

Dash lights and radio lights sometimes work or flicker when hit a bump. Any ideas?

Might be a loose battery cable. Just a thought. did see other post where you stated that you've disconnected battery several times. Hope you find/found a solution.

It won't stay started

Starts for five seconds or less then dies? Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or has a picture of a car with a padlock thru it? If so, this link will help you out. If no lights illuminated on dash, repost for further help.

89 toyota sr5 v6 4x4 automatic will not shift into O/D. Thebutton for O/D clicks and dash light comes on but it is not doing shifting.

still working on my identical problem with 1983 toyota truck, started not shifting into odints OD switch lite is on. Figured out thermostat sometimes is the problem as the engine isnt warming up enuff. changed (bad frozen) thermo and hose, no change.

Then figured viscious clutch was frozen. Found fan rotated a blade or two when cold, but was not freewheeling or easy. Started truck cold, and noted lot of air movement from fan which seemed more when revved up. couldnt stall fan with rolled up newspaper. after warming up for less than 5 minutes, noted change in engine speed, and much less air movement from fan. Now could stall fan with rolled up newspaper. However, fan was now easy to move by hand, and easily rotated about half way.

Now suspecting one of the solinoids, and trying to dope that out....hope this helps

Wiring issues?

Power windows are a drain on a car, especially in GM models. They tend to go slower as the battery weakens. I'd check the battery terminals for corrosion and the cables for tightness. If the terminals/cables are corroded, that could very well be the source of your problem. There are some very good products that just spray on the cables/terminals to remove corrosion or you can remove the cables and use emery paper to clean off the corrosion.

If the cables and terminals are clean and the connections are tight, then check the drive/serpentine belt for snugness. A loose drive belt will slip which in turn the alternator won't put out it's normal charge. This would make a car stall over time. If the drive/serpentine belt is not slipping (check for shiny spots or cracks on the inside of the belt) then lastly, the problem would lie with your charging system, mainly the alternator.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to post back with any other questions and thank you for using Fixya! All the best!
