Question about 1985 Ford Ranger

My oil pan is off, however, I can't take it out.

I have taken all the bolts out and the pan is unhooked, off the motor. I believe the oil pump pick-up may be hanging in the way. My question is; "How do I get it off or out of the way so that my pan will just slide right out?"

This way it's not possible - the sump is fixed to the pump body. 
Loosen the engine mounts and lift it a little.

You must drop the steering gear to remove the oil pan.

Is there a video showing the removal and install of oil pump and oil pan gasket for my 1973 ford f350 with the 360 motor in it?


Just take off the oil pan (drain the oil first) bolts, remove the pan and you'll see the pick up screen and tube for the oil pump. Most of them are held in place by two bolts. Make sure that you use Locktite or simular product on those now cleaned bolts, when you put them back in. If they have lock washers on the bolts, get new grade "5" replacements.Put it back together and use a new oil pan gasket. Ask for advice at your lock auto parts store . The oil pan is the hardest part.

Ok I have a 1995 ford aspire im trying to figure out how to replace the oil pump


Disconnect the motor mounts and jack the engine to remove the oil pan. Remove the oil pan, replace the oil pump you'll find at the end of a pick up tube, replace the pump and put the pick up tube back on the new pump making sure it's in the same low position it was when removed, replace the oil pan gasket and put the oil pan back on, lower the engine and put the motor mount bolts back in. Put in the proper amount of oil and go.

How to replace the oil pan gasket in a f150 1988 truck


Hi there:

  1. Drain the cooling system.


CAUTIONWhen draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
  1. Remove the bolts attaching the fan shroud to the radiator and position the shroud over the fan.
  2. Remove the upper intake manifold and throttle body (see Fuel System ).
  3. Remove the nuts and lockwashers attaching the engine support insulators to the chassis bracket.
  4. If equipped with an automatic transmission, disconnect the oil cooler line at the left side of the radiator.
  5. Remove the exhaust system.
  6. Raise the engine and place wood blocks under the engine supports.
  7. Drain the crankcase.


CAUTIONThe EPA warns that prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause a number of skin disorders, including cancer! You should make every effort to minimize your exposure to used engine oil. Protective gloves should be worn when changing the oil. Wash your hands and any other exposed skin areas as soon as possible after exposure to used engine oil. Soap and water, or waterless hand cleaner should be used.
  1. Support the transmission with a floor jack and remove the transmission crossmember.
  2. Remove the oil pan attaching bolts and lower the oil pan onto the crossmember.
  3. Remove the two bolts attaching the oil pump pickup tube to the oil pump. Remove the nut attaching the oil pump pickup tube to the No. 3 main bearing cap stud. Lower the pickup tube and screen into the oil pan.
  4. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.

To install:
  1. Clean the oil pan, inlet tube and gasket surfaces. Inspect the gasket sealing surface for damages and distortion due to overtightening of the bolts. Repair and straighten as required.
  2. Position a new oil pan gasket and seal to the cylinder block.
  3. Position the oil pick-up tube and screen to the oil pump and install the lower attaching bolt and gasket loosely. Install nut attaching to number 3 main bearing cap stud.
  4. Place the oil pan on the crossmember. Install the upper pick-up tube bolt. Tighten the pick-up tube bolts.
  5. Position the oil pan to the cylinder block and install the attaching bolts. Tighten to 10-12 ft. lbs. (13-16 Nm).
  6. Install the transmission crossmember.
  7. Raise the engine and remove the blocks under the engine supports. Bolt the engine to the supports.
  8. Install the exhaust system.
  9. If equipped with an automatic transmission, connect the oil cooler line at the left side of the radiator.
  10. Install the nuts and lockwashers attaching the engine support insulators to the chassis bracket.
  11. Install the upper intake manifold and throttle body (see Fuel System ).
  12. Install the fan shroud.
  13. Fill the crankcase.
  14. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

How do you remove a oil pan from a 1984 z28 camero


Drain the oil completely, remove all the bolts and drop the pan. On 84 I don't believe you have to remove the tranny. Just remove the bolts.

I cannot slide out/remove oil bottom pan of my 1990 cadillac fleetwood front drive engine. something like a oil strainer is blocking.


What you have there is the oil pump pick up tube. It does indeed have a small screen on the bottom end.

To get the pan out, you can either disconnect motor mounts and raise engine up, or try to access the bolts holding the pick up tube to the bottom of the oil pump.

If there is sufficient space between the pan and the bottom of the block, I'd try to remove the pick up tube if I were you.

Be sure to thoroughly clean the gasket surface on the mating flange of the pick up tube and the oil pump.

A air leak at this point, after re-installation would be a really bad day for you.

The pump would be unable to pull enough (if, in fact, any) oil from the pan to properly lubricate the engine.

Sounds like you reasonably well understand what you're doing, so I won't belabor the point about making sure the gasket surface is cleaned.

raise and support the vehicle. unhook the battery cables. remove the exhaust y pipe. remove the starter. remove the rear cover by the transmission. drain the oil. remove the pan bolts. remove and clean the pan. replace the pick up tube while your there. apply silicone to the front and rear of the pan on both sides of the gasket. reinstall the pan and the other parts described. tighten the bolts to 9 foot pounds and fill with new oil. start and run the car for a few and recheck the torque on the pan bolts. i suggest lock tight for the pan bolts when installing to keep them for working loose. just a dab on each one will do it. hope this helps

Where is the oil pump located on a 1999 ford taurus and whats items do i need replace a long with the oil pump


Remove oil pan oil pump and pick up tube & screen will be bolted on.
You should get oil pump lube, carb. cleaner, new pump oil,
oil pan gasket, silicon, oil & filter, loc-tight, gasket remover & tools metric, 1/4 drive socket set, scraper / putty knife, 2 jack stands, a jack or ramps,
& blocks for rear wheels.
Lets get started.

(1)Get your car up on stands or ramps block rear tires.

(2)Drain oil & remove oil filter remove battery cable NEG (-)

(3)remove pan

(4)remove old pump

(5)remove pick up tube from oil pump

(6)Now clean tube & screen with carb. cleaner place on news paper to dry.

(7) clean all old gasket off from engine & pan also clean bolts

(8)place silicon on pan place gasket on pan put bolts in from gasket side to Aline holes put a side to dry

(9) Attach tube to pump with a little loc-tight fill pump with oil pump lube

(10)attach pump to engine block make sure rod goes in proper & bolt are tight.

(11)Bolt pan back on engine using a 1/4 in drive ratchet don't over tighten bolts get all bolts in now slow run each bolt in starting at 1 end then jump to the other then go to bolt at other end a cross from 1st bolt. Do this till all bolts are ran in. Now tighten bolts look for gasket on side of pan.If it starts to push out stop go to next bolt.

(12)Instill new filter & drain plug,& pour in oil

(13)Replace Neg - cable

I hope this works for you it's a basic oil pump change for most cars.
Some take more steps.

Can i drop the oil pan and or change the oil pump with out pulling the engine?


Bearings are located at each "big end" of every connecting rod (the rod that connects each piston to the crankshaft and at each crank support (part of the engine block) To measure wear on a bearing you need something called "plastigage" which is placed betweenthe bearing surface and the crank, the cap re-torqued then removed. You then measure the spread of the gauge material with a micrometer. If you remove any bearing and see brass backing instead of bearing material, you don't need to measure it...It is gone.You need to check all the bearings in this manner. If any Main bearings are worn, the engine needs to be removed as that is the ONLY correct way to replace them without having another immediate failure.
I'm not saying this to be insulting, but if you need to ask where the bearings are, it is likely you should not be doing this work. Though it appears to be a "take out, put in" operation, it takes experience and skill not only to do the job correctly but to recognize things inside that can bite you in the **** if they are not taken care of.
One other item....If you don't understand this answer do not rate it.
I only am a beginner (40 years in repair, many spent building 7,000 hp race engines) so, I'm not very sure about the answer (if you believe that, monkeys will fly tomorrow!!!) We do this free and really don't need a poor rating for a perfectly good answer!!!

Oil pump change


take long bolts out that run thru motor mounts ,jack in front of motor all bolts in oil pan out, remove oil pan and then remove oil pump, replace new pump ,torque to specs, replace oil place with new pan gasket , bolts back thru mounts and ready to go, hope to help, thanks robert b.
