Do jeep V8 engines last beyond 100k miles?

Looking to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Mechanics say avoid V8s with over 100k miles, but that's all I'm seeing. Should I stick with V6 or do V8 engines last beyond 100k miles?

V8 engine,on the norm, will last a good long time,if they have been taken care of,and continue being maintained.Highway miles of course are always a plus, when asking about the vehicle,if the truth be told, but look, listen, and drive is the best way to be sure of what you are buying, the ignition switch is a good place to observe, the lock, and key cylinder,is it worn>is the key worn?the wrighting on the key,and it`s trademarks, are they still there,or worn off,and how bad? This will tell you if it was a start and go vehicle,or not, could be a vehicle that was drove long distances instead of short stop and go .

These all depends on how you drive the car, and how you keep up with regular maintenance. I have a vehicle that has almost 200k miles, and runs like new.

I'm going to start by saying the life expectancy of your Jeep is around 200k. So after 150k maintenance is not a big deal to the manufacturer.
If you start over on maintenance at 100k you have a 50/50 chance of the truck lasting beyond 200k. There will be issues come up that are not covered in the first 100k due to old age, such as suspension and transmission problems. Those problems can not be avoided by routine maintenance.

2008 jeep grand cherokee stalls while driving 4.7 v8

The 2001 Grand Cherokee limited 4.7 does the quarter mile in 15.563 seconds. The 2008 v6 Mustang does the quarter mile in 15.378 seconds. It is possible but unlikely. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does a 1996 Grand Cherokee Jeep have a timing belt or chain? And does either need changing?

That depends on which engine you have. Both 4.0 and V8 engines have a chain. The chain has no real time limit on how long it's good but from experience I've found that most, when well maintained will stretch to the point that they should be replaced at around 225 thousand miles.
Chain and gears are not super expensive and if you buy the best ones you can find, if you replace yours at 225-250 thousand miles the new one should outlast the vehicle.

I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was told by an auto parts store that my Jeep with a 4.7 V8 has no PCV Valve. is this true? I've read that it's on the side of the fill tube ...nope nothing there....

Hello,

I searched pep boys, advancedauto and autozone and found no PCV valve listed for your 4.7.

I can say however that the last model Jeep (WJ) with the 4.7 had a PCV valve (cuz I owned one), and yes it was on the side of the engine.

You may also like to know that 4.0 (ZJ) Jeeps dont have PCV valves as well (cuz I owned 2) however the V8 (ZJ) V8s do have one (cuz I owned the rare 5.9).

Hope this helps.

Im looking at a jeep 2002 with 4.7l motor. was there any problems with that year over all?grand cherokee sport.135000 miles.im a women with no knowlegde of buying a vehicle by myself. thank you jody

The 4.7l is an overhead cam V-8 motor. It is plagued with problems involving sludge build up, poor oil circulation, and engine failure due to lack of lubrication. Personally, I would avoid any vehicle with this engine.

I have a 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee w/over 100K miles. Am I better off trying to get some form of extended warranty, or just have whatever they recommend for 100K miles (per owners manual). The warranties...

I think extende warranty is just a precaution and it might not be so much useful if you are mainting it properly with specified service at specified miles...So keep driving and do the specified services when it reaches specified miles as per owners manual..

All wheel drive v8 issues 96 Jeep Grnd Cherokee Ltd

Any all wheel drive will give less fuel miles.(compared to ones you engage as needed) The Chrysler v8 is a time proven engine, pretty much a copycat of a chevy with some changes to make it their own. Overall, I haven't heard any really bad stuff about them. If you look at the problems on this site, there seem to be fewer jeep probs than all other vehicles. (even though some problems are really weird!!!)
What you really need to see is the vehicles history to make sure it's been maintained and has not been back to a shop for the same thing over and over.
Good luck!
