Internal heater or its pipes (more likely considering its age) are punctured. Do not  bother to try to fix them, replace them directly.

Hello. I have a old VW Polo 1.4CL 1999. Have a small yet annoying problem, the battery light keeps lighting up when the power steering cuts out. I have checked the fluid in the compartment and have topped...

OK, the PS and Alternator are driven by the same belt in most cases. This is a common denominator. Make sure your serpentine belt is properly installed. If coolant is leaking on the belt, it could slip, causing both light and loss of steering, and connecting all three problems. This would come from the front water pump seal behind the pulley, unless it is on the timing belt. I would suspect the coolant leak and pinpoint that first. Check it cold, hot running, and hot cooling down after heating up. Be careful of steam and hot water.

My Malibu is running hot while still, but when I get going the temperature seems to go back down. I can smell, like a burning antifreeze. Could this be the fan not turning on when standing still?

More likely is you have low coolant levels. If you can smell it, it means it is probably leak somewhere. Check your coolant level. If it is low, I would look under the car for antifreeze somewhere on the engine or engine compartment. Most likely you will just need to replace a loose hose or a hose with a hole in it. It should be an easy and cheap fix.

My 1998 Saturn SL2 is leaking coolant what is causing the problem? I have poured coolant into the compartment that the manual said to, this Saturn has 140,000 miles on it. The meter reads cool when I put...

it could be one of the hoses leaking. with your car running look under the front and see where it is coming from. The top/bottom hose coming off the radiator or MAYBE from the water pump

Coolant leaking by the firewall in the engin compartment

Check in the very back of the cylinder head's by the fire wall, there's a coolant pipe that run's from one head to the other, it's hard to get to but with a mirro you can check it.

My 2001 Ford Windstar van seems to be using alot of coolant daily

Possible coolant leak on hot engine parts causing it to evaporate as it leaks. That would definitely invade the cabin air. You would need to carefully check under the hood with the engine warmed up and running.

Also could be a headgasket failure between coolant channels and a combustion chamber. This latter problem sometimes shows itself as vapor at the tailpipe after there should be no more visible. You may also detect the odor of coolant there too.

Heater takes to long to get hot and water is dripping form dashboaerd on passenger side i have a 2000 grand jeep cherokee

Sounds like one of two things are happening. Either the hose going to the heater core (on the engine side of the dash) is leaking causing coolant to spray into the passenger compartment or your heater core is leaking which is causing the dripping from the passenger side of the dash. This would also cause a loss of coolant in the engine which would cause the engine to overheat and not enough coolant to get to the heater core to supply heat to the passenger compartment. Check your coolant level (while engine is cold) and refill it with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water after you tighten the leaking hose or replace the heater core. Then start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. Again let it cool down and then top off the radiator with the 50/50 mix of coolant. Do not under any circumstances open the radiator cap while the engine is hot.

I have a problem with my fire wall leaking coolant, it seems to be comming out of one of the hoses that lead to the heater core.but i have no loss of heat and i cant smell anything from the vents.and i was...

Do you have coolant on the front passenger floor board? When heater cores fail it will leak onto the floor board and mist coolant on the windshield. If you have a loose clamp on the heater core hose it's possible it could be leaking down the firewall into the passenger compartment. If you don't have coolant on the windshield check the clamps / hoses first.

Cooling sysem leak

Leak found at heater.  Most of coolant added in attempts to locate leak was retained on the floor of the passenger compartment --- hence the disappearing coolant phenomenom. About 5 gallons of water were obtained with wet vac of region under floor carpet. Thanx to those who considered the problem.
