3.8 to 5 quarts depending on what size engine. I would put 3.8 quarts in and check the dipstick, then add as necessary.

Cannot find manual for 98 rodeo 3.2 4x4 and need to know engine oil capacity. auto zone said 4.5 qt. did that and now oil level is really high on dipstick, just need to know capacity

Hi there. 4 qt's for motor.5 for filter. There are 4 ways to fix this. # 1.If your oil filter is in vertical position, remove it with a band tool and drain it or replace it with new filter.Use new oil for gasket and make sure old gasket isn't stuck on motor. Please use 3 ton jack stands to support car on the frame. # 2.Use a box end wrench to loosen oil drain nut and loosen a little at a time until the oil stops dripping and turns in to a stream, close it once in a while and check level. If you don't know how many threads are on the plug best to let it drip. # 3.11935_f.jpgbuy a dip stick oil changer and change oil with a tube down the dipstick tube. This one comes from a marine supply and is a bit pricey at $70.00 + tax but is safer than under the car work.Called a big boy. Auto parts store will have these tools as well, some will drain your transmission and then you can change the filter with out all the mess.(filter is inside the transmission pan,no drain plug)..........Thank You for choosing FixYa.

I want to change oil filter. Where is it? and do i need special tools.

I would suggest with that question, you would be
better off continuing to have the oil changed,
where ever you have been doing it

You must know you would have to raise the
car up somehow & need at least an oil filter
tool or cup & several other tools

I just don't see it worth your while to get
involved.

2002 toyota engine, oil sludgecaused my car to stopped and now needs overhaul

Complain to Toyota, they are fixing some of these car for free. Here is the explanation and the list of problem vehicles.

Oil sludge or black sludge is a solid or gel in motor oil caused by the oil gelling or solidifying, usually at temperatures lower than 100 degrees Celsius. Sludge can be a major contributor to Internal combustion engine problems, and can require the engine to be replaced, if the damage is severe. Sludge is usually caused by the presence of water in the oil, and can accumulate with use. Ways to minimize sludge production and accumulation includes performing frequent oil changes, using synthetic oil, and following the manufacturer's engine maintenance routine.
The following engines were reported by the Center for Auto Safety and/or their manufacturers to have a problem with sludge accumulation:

  • 1996-2001 Toyota 3.0 L 1MZ V6
  • 1996-2001 Toyota 5SFE I4
