Check your tires and put the proper amount of pressure in each.

If they are all fine, you may have a dead pressure sensor on one, or more, of your wheels, which would need to taken care of by a shop.

The sign that lighted up on the dash looks like (_!_) . I don't know what it means. My e-mail is simonm@bellsouth.net Thank you

If this symbol is the same as american cars it has to do with tire pressure monitoring system.Which means you have a tire going low.Check tire pressure,if there is more than a 2 to 3 pound differance from tire to tire this light will go on.Some systems are so sensitive that normal tire exspansion and contraction will turn light on.So check your pressure and make sure all tires are up to recommend pressure start and drive car and light should turn off.If you have a tire going flat, depending on how bad the leak is the light will turn on again and ot will be easy to see which tire is leaking.Good luck.

What does an ! in a circle mean with ( ) around it

This (!) symbol is your TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) warning light.
The manual has this to say about it:
This system monitors tire pressure. if the low tire pressure warning light illuminates, check the tire pressure in all four tires. Adjust the low tire pressure to the recommended cold tire pressure shown on the Tire and Loading information label located in the driver's door opening. After tire pressures are adjusted, the vehicle will need to be driven at speeds above 16 MPH (25 km/h) to activate the TPMS and turn off the low tire pressure warning light.

My low tire light came on so I went and had air and all the tires checked but now I don't know how to turn the light off. I have had the car since 2000 and it has 50,000 miles on it but could never figure...

Hello Mattingly.

Here is some information for you regarding your problem.

The Tire Inflation Monitor (TIM) system alerts the driver when the pressure changes in one of the tires. The system only detects a low pressure condition while the vehicle is being driven. Once a low tire pressure condition is detected, the system informs the driver that a low tire pressure condition exist's, whenever the ignition is ON.
The LOW TIRE message appears on the Instrument panel if the tire pressure in one tire becomes at least 82 kPa (12 psi) lower or higher than the other three tires. The message does not appear if more than one tire is low or high, or if the system is not calibrated properly. The system does not inform the driver which tire is low. To clear this message, set the tire pressures in all four tires to the proper pressures and perform the system reset procedure. Refer to Tire Inflation Monitor Reset Procedure for service procedure.
The Tire Inflation Monitor software requires approximately one half hour of straight line driving to complete the TIM autolearn. There are several speed ranges that the EBCM needs to learn the tire inflation configuration in order to have the full capability of detecting a low tire condition. The speed detection ranges are the following:

  • 24-64 km/h (15-40 mph)
  • 64-113 km/h (40-70 mph)
  • 113-145 km/h (70-90 mph)
Each speed range has 2 modes of low tire detection.

  • Monitor Mode 1
  • Monitor Mode 2 The EBCM learns the tire inflation configuration for each speed range independently. In Monitor Mode 1, the EBCM has only partially learned the tire inflation configuration for the speed range and has limited detection capability for a low tire condition. In Monitor Mode 2, the EBCM has fully learned the tire inflation configuration for the speed range and has full detection capability for a low tire condition. If the EBCM is not in Monitor Mode 1 or Monitor Mode 2, a low tire condition cannot be detected because the EBCM has not learned the tire inflation configuration of the vehicle.

To reset (calibrate) the system:
Turn the ignition switch to RUN. Then press and hold the RESET button for about five seconds. The red RESET button is located inside the instrument panel fuse block on the right side of the dash.. The LOW TIRE light will come on and flash three times and then it will turn off.
The system completes the calibration process during driving.
The system normally takes 15 to 20 minutes of driving in each of three speed ranges to "learn" tire pressures. The speed rages are 15 to 40 mph (25 to 65 km/h), 40 to 65 mph (65 to 105 km/h) and above 65 mph (105 km/h).

There you are, this should fix you up.
Keep in mind this system uses wheel speed sensors to calculate. If one of your sensors isn't working your low tire light will remain on.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Maintenence required light and tire pressure lights will not go off after oil change and tire rotation on my Toyota Highlander. How do I turn them off?

The maintenance light needs to be reset manually. See my Tips and Tricks on this website for additional information on how to reset it.

You should also check your spare tire for proper inflation. It will set the tire pressure light, as the spare is monitored also. If all 5 tires are OK, you may have a malfunctioning tire pressure sensor. If the tires have been changed recently, people with older tire machines have been known to break the sensors regularly, by mistake.

The problem is more than likely your spare tire. The system monitors all five tires. Check the pressure in your spare tire.
