Question about 1997 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

How to take the transmission out of a 97 dodge neon? Im looking for a manual online that shows me this. I went to repair the rear oil seal but after I got it back together the transmission leaked all its fluid out where the torqe converter is. I figure the torqe converter was not in its seat right. What do you think the problem is and if I remove the transmission will i be able to replace that seal?

You are suppose to put the torque converter on the bell housing first, then align the engine to the torque converter slot. I hope nothing has been damaged.

Can anyone help me?

The only site I know of is autozone.com which requires you to register. They put some of their DIY repair books online for access.
As for a real shop manual, you can buy them on Ebay.

Can a lifter be fixed on a 97 dodge neon or do I have to take to a shop[? example add oil, change oil. or put oil in a certain spot?

I think you will find that you have to take it to the shop. The valve lifters are located on the camshaft which in the 97 neon is located in the middle of the engine you would need to pull the cylinder heads off to get there, I dont think it will be a quick fix, im sorry good luck

Spark Plugs

The oil on the spark plug usually comes from the valve cover seal or the spark plug tube. The valve cover seals to the tube and the tube seals to the head. The tube is usually a tight fit in to the head with a little sealant. The tubes can be purchased at the chrysler dealer or possibly at a local parts store. As for the red fluid,it is automatic transmission fliud . It is used in the manual transmission as well as the power steering system. You could have an axle seal leak, transmission shifter seal leak, power steering seal leak, depending on which side of the vehicle is wet.

97 neon oil leak

Solution: Maybe.

Rear main seal is probably the problem.

My 1997 Dodge Neon has this same problem. My father-in-law (who used to be a mechanic) checked the car for me and found the rear main seal needs replacing.
