Hi,

Have you Scanned the Car for Codes before replacing any component? That's my first advise to all the people, if check light engine is ON and they are unable to get that off, it always indicate a problem ( More than Often ). You need to take the car to the Auto Zone and get the car scanned with the help of Code Reader. Once done, you would get certain Codes that would help us to fix the problem. As i said, it would not make any sense to replace components. It might be a transmission problem but, i would not advise you to keep spending the bucks. Get the car scanned and get the codes. That would narrow down the problem.

Let me know, once get the codes.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Don't think doing shocks has much to do with it unless you accidentally pulled a wire out somewhere. It's a good thing the engine light is on. You can have codes read at most larger parts stores for free. That Will give you some idea where the malfunction is. I'd tend to think it could be either the MAP sensor or Throttle position sensor, as both can influence shifting. However that's an educated guess...exactly why testing is really important!

I suggested that you have the codes read in my first response. OK you did that (and gave me a low rating for a nearly identical response to one you gave a great rating to.) You got a code indicating "transmission control system" Generally that would be the electronic shift controller. Now that you have that information, you need to determine if the controller is bad, if it is getting information from items that it depends on (speed sensor, map sensor, throttle position sensor, any pressure sensors on or in the transmission, shift solenoids) You need to check wiring to ensure that it's intact and that any plugs are plugged in and contacts are clean.Signals from the controller need to get to the transmission as well! Most transmission shops use a "flight recorder" that they plug into the system and drive the vehicle, reading real time signals. You can do the testing I suggested or simply get a shift control unit from a local scrapyard and plug it in. If the problem disappears, then you are good. Transmission problems are and always have been a completely different "skill set" which is why there are transmission shops (otherwise general repair shops would do that work too....(most don't)
    Good luck

My 1995 grand cherokee takes a lot to start. turns over fine, but won't fire. checked fuel rail, no pressure. after trying 15 times or so, it will start and run just fine. starts right back up unl

Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are ecu repair services and replacement ecus on ebay.

Have you checked the trans fluid? Has to be checked with engine running in neutral. If its good you will need to bring it to a transmission shop. Good luckHowie

How do i use the 4wd

Hi,

Bring your vehicle to a full and complete stop. The system will not properly engage if the vehicle is moving.

Shift the vehicle into first gear, second gear, or reverse before engaging the 4-wheel-drive system. The system is limited based on the speed of the vehicle, and these gears are within the speed range of the system's capabilities.

For Honda piliot, engage the VTM-4 system by pressing the VTM-4 Lock button on your Pilot's dashboard. The button will illuminate to confirm that the system is engaged.

I hope this helps.

Been having some transmission issue with my 2009 CRV. First off about a week after getting it, I started noticing every time i took my foot off of the accelerator it would downshift, sometimes quite...

some time when you bring the car to the dealer and it does not act up.
at the dealer, mechanic can only test drive your car a short time. remember, they work on commission so they can not spend a great deal of times to test any car unless it obvious.
you know some thing wrong with your car because you drive it daily.
what you should have done is make sure they keep record of your visit. you also need to keep all the paper work showing that they checked and found nothing.
try to bring your car to the dealer while it acts up so hopefully they can catch it.
as new cars now a day have so many electronics in them, so problems like yours are inevitable

This sounds like symptoms of a clogged valve body and/or incorrect transmission fluid being used. My first step would be to drain the transmission, replace the trans. filter, and refill with high quality correct fluid. IIRC this vehicle calls for dexron III/mercon. but you might consider using chrysler ATF+3 or +4, which should be backwards compatible. There is a product called Lucas Transmission Fix which I frequently use which may also help. I usually use this in place of 1qt of normal fluid in a refill. You might also get better results if you use a transmission flush chemical before changing the filter.

Delay in transmission when starting car

Low transmission fluid, clogged transmission filter etc. Check the fluid level, check for leaks if low. Repair any leaks, if leaking from the transmission pan gasket you'll have to replace it. It'll be a good time for a transmission tune-up.

94' jeep grand cherokee trans. delays in reverse

Hi ray_c_brown, This pause is determined by a time lag test, and you can check this yourself with a stop watch.Engagement time in "D" range should be a maximum of 1.2 seconds and the engagement time for reverse should be a maximum of 1.5 seconds. So with your vehicle warmed up and assuming curb idle speed is correct set the park brake, make sure ac is off (air cond) shift transfer case to 2H or if it is a NP249 transfer case leave in 4H,put your vehicle into neutral and set your stop watch shift to Drive and record time repeat this a couple of times and do the same with reverse,as you said the delay is with reverse so if it takes longer than 1.5 seconds here are a few things it could be:shift cable adjustment, low line pressure, worn direct clutch, first/reverse brake worn or a worn or damaged overdrive clutch.Hope this helps you good luck :)
