An alternator is normally grounded by the bolts holding it to the slide mount and swivel mount. If they recommend an additional ground and put a ground wire on, then connect that wire to any metal place on the engine.

Battery drain

Get your alternator tested, as a fault in this can lead to undercharging or permanent battery drain - causing a flat battery overnight. Once this is ruled out, remove fuses one by one, and insert test probes in the sockets to test for amperes. Replace each fuse as you do this.
Very often there will be a high drain from audio equipment if a motor is stuck.

Where is the oil filter on 2004 F150 5.4 engine.

Driver side of the engine, if you look up over the front axle ( on 4x4 ) or the front cross member ( on 4x2 ) you will see a plastic tray with the drain pointing towards the front of the truck.
Up towards the engine, on an angle is the oil filter.

Let me know if you need a picture of the location ( can get it in a few hours )

2004 Ford F-150, my rear differential seems to be chattering when I turn left or right from a stop. Do I need to replace clutch packs or just change differential fluid and add modifier?

start with a fluid change.its the cheapest. chk the fluid as it comes out for metal flakes. you may have sticky parts. drain , fill with diesel and turn tires by hand, let sit for half hour and turn the tires this three or four times then drain and replace fluid and modifier.

Truck wont run

From your brief description I would guess your alternator failed, and when you ran down the battery the truck died. Was there a charge light lit on your dash? Cars will run a long time on just the battery, but when you turn on the lights, wipers, heater and other stuff it drains faster. A jump or a charged battery will confirm if this is true. From there it is back to the basics: fuel, spark, compression.

With more information we can go further.
