If your tensioner is out of roundness, not running concentritly on its axis, or is over-adjusted, or simply too old. It must not be wobbling on its axis. Likewise, oil droplets on the tensioner or around it would cause it to flung off, and getting cut in some other rotating parts.
Try start the engine and watch the tensioner as it rotates. It should rotate on straight line. Still unconvinced? Replace the tensioner.

The tensioner should turn freely. With the belt off turn them by hand. If there is resistance then the bearings are worn and needs replacing.

The only way you can tell is if the tensioner has no tension or its out of alignment you have to make sure that all of your pulleys are properly aligned also kake sure that all pulleys are turning if you have one that is seized up then this too will make the belt pop.

How to remove 2006 chevy Malibu cooling fan assembly

I think this is a fan which has a large nut with left hand threads and requires a (you guessed it) special tool. Most auto parts stores have a "loan a tool" program and should have this tool and be able to explain how to use it. Once you break it loose, get the tool out of the way and spin it off by hand, being very careful to not let it fall into the radiator as it comes off. Replace all belts and tensioners while your at it.

Serpentine belt falling off

The Belt Tensioner is probably crooked, it's hard to tell but if you look at it while the vehicle is running and it looks tilted even just a tiny bit, it will cause the belt to fall off. Belt Tensioner.

Fan belt keeps breaking why?

Normally, if you keep breaking belts it will be either to much tension on the belt; misaligned components that cause the belt to be "bent". It would depend on how the belt breaks. If it is streatched then I would thing tension. If it is chewed up on the sides, then a misalignment problem

Hello, Yes there can be a reason for the Tensioner to break. I will attempt to explain what you are seeing on the pulleys. First, I want to say that there is an Electric cooling fan that has everything to do with keeping the engine cool. It works with a Temperature sensor and then supplies a signal to the Relay on the Electric fan. If either part is bad, the fan will not go on to cool the system.

Now for the belt skipping, if you have A/C, the compressor will kick on/off to run the compressor. This can easily cause a skip in the belt when the belt is stretched or the Tensioner is worn. You want the A/C to be on steady and that will only happen if the Freon is at the correct quantity. You can not tell just by the A/C temperature.

You need to have someone look at the other pulley-driven parts. The Alternator has a bearing, and so does the Water pump and Power steering. Each of these components requires a hands-on inspection by a mechanic who knows normal from abnormal wobble in the component. The mechanic will also need to look at the pulley alignment which means that the belt is straight from one pulley to the next. All it takes is to put 1 washer on the wrong side of a bracket and the belt will run crooked.

If you have A/C, turn it off so you can drive the car to a Repair facility. I understand our site has Repair places located by Zip Code to give you a dependable repair by someone associated with us.

I hope my Solution is very helpful to you.

The belt keeps coming off the fan

the only reason for the belt coming off the pulley is the something in the belt path is off aligment.
put the belt back on and chek the path where the belt pass. water pump, alternator, AC compressor, Power steeling unit, etc....... or even the pulley tensioner itself.
chance are there is a belt in the wrong pully slot.

Serpintine belt

It sounds to me like the belt tensioner pulley is bad.Its spring loaded and this pulley is what keeps the belt in place.
