Question about 1996 Ford Escort 4 Door

I just got the engine rebuild in a 1.9 1996 ford escort. When I start the car the valves make lots of noise till it wams up then you can only hear a small valve noise. What should I do? Norberto Louisville KY

    Well the car has 3000 since the rebuild of the engine and I have change the oil 3 times since. However I do not have any warantee because it was done by a so called friend which I no longer socialize with. What do you recomend I do. And thank you for your promp responce. Norberto

Give it a few more days the valves have to seat themselves the sound that your hearing is valve lash if it does not improve within 500 miles of rebuild take it back to the mechanic they may have to redo the the valves.

    since youre not dealing with the mechanic anymore id suggest that you have someone that you trust take the valvecover off and retorgue the valves.this should solve your problem if it dosent then you may have to start from scratch and have it redone being that we dont know if he did every thing correctly. also you can have the timing rechecked to make sure that its in time this will give you some valve rattle also. hope this helps you.

Take it back. teh shop should have some type of warrenty on rebuilt engines.. make them fix it. they caused it.

Will valves be broke on 1995 ford escort if timing belt broke


Not necessarily. If you can give me your engine size (I know it's probably 4 cylinder/but please verify so I don't waste any time) I'll let you know exactly. The engines that are the reason for your question are referred to as Interference - I believe. It's either an interference engine or not - if it is, then when you're timing belt snaps, unfortunately all your valves are still going - doesn't mean you'll damage them, but means you can. A belt snapping as you're pulling out of the driveway at 3 mph - not a lot of RPM - may be lucky. Doing 85 on the interstate? More likely damage could occur. I looked at interference engine list.
Ford engines
1.8L--1.9 L and 2.0L sohc are not interference engines. I can only go by the database info.

yes thanks to ford [fix or repair daily ] the valves have had a knock ,could be connecting rod shortend by impact ? but sadly i would say valves ,easy repair get a compression test first thow .

My dontn atart,because get in water inside motor,and maybe,the computernits broken too,or maybe the plugs its borne.


If you got water inside your motor, it sounds like you may have hydro-locked, meaning water has filled one or more of your cylinders, not allowing the engine to turn over because the pistons can't compress water. Pull out all your spark plugs and turn the key as if you were going to start the car. If you see a bunch of water shoot out of the spark plug ports, then it was hydro-locked. Put the spark plugs back in and try to start the car. If the car starts, listen for clicking, ticking or banging from the engine. If you do hear a lot of noise turn it off immediately. Unfortunately, hydro-locking your engine can potentially cause a lot of damage to your engine. You could have bent a piston rod or a valve. If that's the case, you should take it into a shop to have it checked out.

Hello my 91 ford escort is making a ticking noise.i chaneged the belt battery starter alternater oil and oil filter spark puge and wires and the gasket to the manifold.wat can it be i spend lots of money...


The lifter are tapping Put a cup of Dextron 3 transmission oil in the motor oil and it will quite down the lifter and help seal up the valve seals make the engine run better in a day or two.

Maybe not. Not all engine have an interference problem. Many wil be fine after the belt is replaced and the valve train is retimed. Was there a lot of noise? If the engine just stopped without much fanfare you are Ok. Check with your mechanic or dealer to be specific.

Hi:
If the smoke is whitish in color, and just started doing this suddenly, then most likely you have a leaking head gasket, and it is letting coolant get in your cylinder, and possibly oil into your coolant. I am not sure about the noises you are hearing, but you should have your car checked out as soon as possible, or your engine could be permanently damaged, or it could be already.

if it is a 1.9L engine you could have dropped a valve seat this is common with 1.9L engines and requires a new head and engine rebuild does the engine turn over and if it does is it really fast cause if its turning over really fast it would be a timming belt broken

Tapping noise


The first Zetec engine appeared in 1992, powering the fourth generation of the European Ford Escort and Orion. It was codenamed as the "Zeta" engine before Italian car maker Lancia threatened to sue Ford for trademark infringement as it already owned the name. Ford hurriedly renamed the engine "Zetec".

Early versions of the engine (prior to mid 1998) came complete with self-adjusting hydraulic valves. This helped prevent the notorious valve tapping (on the CVH) but caused other issues. The biggest problem was that a special Ford formulation of oil was required otherwise the valves tended to stick. Similarly, failure to regularly rev the engine above 4000 rpm also led to valve sticking. For these reasons, conventional tappets with shims were introduced in 1998.
