Check the resistance on the injectors. You may have bad injectors thats why it is idling rough. Use a multimeter to check the resistance. Normally the reading should be anywhere from 12 ohms to 20 ohms. Extremely high resistance indicate a bad injector. Do not energize the injectors with 12 volts DC. You will burn them up. They are designed to operate on pulsating current.

I forgot to mention also a compression check. Rough idle can also be caused by bad valves. Since it turns of when the other two plugs is pulled indicates that the engine is running on two cylinders.

Why would you pull the spark plug wire off while the car is running? but try adjusting the idle. should be a small screw on the throttle body. tighten it and it should make your car idle a little higher and smoother.. if that doesnt fix it then your engine is probably 'missing" which means that your have a fouled spark plug or your colenoid isnt fireing properly

When was the last time you tuned the vehicle up sounds like it needs to have a complete tune up when the car didnt run any differently it is because the plugs arent firing where as the other two are.

Hello WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED !

When power is disconnected from the vehicles on board computers, they reset themselves to factory standards.

To have all system monitors reset themselves... a standard driving procedure has to be followed. Please see the link for a Accent model to give you an idea of what to do. If you can't find the exact procedure for your vehicle, the link for the Accent model should work for your Elantra.

PS: Check to make sure the spark plugs leads went to the correct cylinder.

Engine light is blinking and it runs very rough/low power in gear.

Check the coil pack. Same symptoms on mine. It went at 74,000.
You can get the resistance specs from a shop manual. I have been told the plastic engine cover traps heat and makes short life of the coil pack. I removed the top engin cover, cosmetic only after replacing mine. You will probably need spark plugs also they are probably fowled by now. If you have not changed spark plug wires in awhile in would not hurt.
