Question about 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88
An easy fix, accessability may be your only frustration. Disconnect your battery cables. Then locate the starter and disconnect the wiring from old unit. Locate the 2 mounting bolts and take them out. you can now remove your old starter. Position the new one and re-install your mounting bolts and the wiring connections. You may now re-connect the battery and start up your Olds. Good Luck. I hope you find this to be very helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!

There should be one large stud that the batter positive cable goes to. There should be a small stud marked with the letter, it gets the wire from the ignition switch which is usally green. If there is a small stud marked R it is usally left vacant but is sometimes used as a coil feed. There may be sevaral red wires or other colors which are fusible links and go on the battery term of the starter. Place the battery cable on the stud first and these on the top of it.

Disconnect the positive Battery cable (You will lose radio and seat settings and wipe computer memory clean) Remove the two 15MM bolts and lower starter down and out of the transmission starter well mark wires to which posts they go then unhook wires do not lose the shims if it has shims, they are important keeps starter from staying engaged after motor starts. Installation is reverse order.
