Question about 1994 Pontiac Firebird

2 Answers

I have a 1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with an automatic transmission. I get an intermittent service light and a P0029 code is referenced. When this happens the car seems shift harshly. I thought P0029 is an OBD-II code? -- P0029 Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2) Why would this affect the transmission shifting? Wouldn't it be related to a shift solenoid problem since it's a 4L60E transmission? If this is a valid code, what can I do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance for the help!

It's an exhaust valve inside the transmission, when the solenoid isn't working right, the pressurized fluid can't exhaust through the passages, which can cause rough shifting. It has to be taken to a transmission shop, the transmission pan has to be dropped and possibly the valve body to get at the solenoid. Hope this helped.

Intermittent means a loose connection somewhere. The reason why it shift harshly is maybe solenoid is also connected somehow to the transmission solenoid, therefore affecting the transmissions permormance. It is best to refer to a wiring diagram.

On my 1994 trans am the power windows and radio just quit working

If it is intermittently, you may have a body control module problem. Often, when a wire comes loose, it loses contact and causes the radio and window to not work. I would start with that and look for a loose blue wire going to the BCM.

Inaccurate Speedometer

Your rear diff has a different ratio gear in it. Find out what ratio gear your car came with, remove your diff gear, and replace with same ratio that it came with from factory, that will fixya.

What cause that pontiac firebird start but the engine in minutes shutdown

Hello

The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

I have a 1990 firebird v-6 automatic and the shifter cable needs adjustment. The trans won't go into the selected gear (park). How do I do this?

the adjustment is going to have to be made on the transmission shift arm.get under the car find the cable and you will see it is hooked to the transmission arm that is where you will have to adjust this for it to go into park .
