Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

We are having issues again with the 2003 tdi automatic. If you need to put your foot into the paddle and are only in first gear it will go into the starvations mode. You then have to pull over and shut it off and then let it reset the computer. Once you restart you have to pamper it through 1 and 2nd gear and then you are ok. If going up a hill you will loose up to 10 miles per hour. On the way home the husband was driving the car and could only do 45 in a 75 zone. Car thourgh a code and he did not write down but decided to pull the air filter and the car ran like a bat out hell. We replaced the filter and the problem is not as bad but still have to pamper the car through the first few gears. Help

today we went out and started the car and it ran for about 5 minutes and it quit. We had to use starter fluid to get it to run for a minuit and it quit again.

again we added starter fluid and got it to start. You had to keep your foot on the peddle to keep it running.

You need to take it to a Porsche dealer to have the computer software updated. The sooner, the better! Until then, turn off your PSM (Porsche Stability Management), to see if that helps.

When i insert card car will not start untill i put my foot on brake pedal . i have a automatic transmisson.when car starts i cannot get car into gear

Foot on brake starting/shifting -Some vehicles have this as a safety measure. This is normal. If you are having issues shifting gears, you may have linkage issues, but more simply, try turning the steering wheel a little each way, it this allow you to change gears , then something is binding up.

it sounds like a wire is bad/ shorting out. Put it in a dark garage open the hood have someone start it while you look under the hood if they give it a little fuel you will see an arc from the bad wire.

Hard shifting

after checking oil level in auto box(top line on dipstick in "P")try this, without using any gas at all,put into drive and let car reach max speed (about 30/35).then using half gas do the same, without moving your right foot, then if safe do the same, with full the gearbox is computer controlled, you have just reset the shift pattern back to its start position. The car will now change according to your driving style,(if multi user,it will take about 50m to read your style again)
if driven hard it will change hard.......
any help??

My ford focus tdi 2003 cant select 1st,3rd or 5th gears.

Car is in limp in mode unless you have the tools to work on automatic transmission you will need to take it to a transmission shop. Of course you can check oil level but I suspect you have other issues.

Hi everyone! Transmission question. I have a

You going to have to service the transmission more frequently like every 15,000 miles or every 6 months and add a remote transmission oil filter. In the mean time bring the CVR to a transmission shop and have the transmission serviced and have them to a transmission line pressure test. This will give an indication if there is a problem with the Transmission oil pump, Boost valve, and the EPC valve. All should be covered under the warranty, unless you have put that much miles on the CRV already. And yes letting your foot of the brakes before you let it go into gear will shorten your transmission's life. Good luck and keep me posted.

2003 Jetta 1.8T looses power while driving

Easy DIY is to change all fuel, air, and oil filters, do full tune-up, and change ignition cables, too. See if problem goes away. Take a look at coil, too, those cars have a known coil issue and it needs replacement every 25,000 miles
