Question about 2007 Volkswagen Golf

Seat leon 2.0 tdi 170, driving car last night and vehicle just cut off, is cranking but doesnt start up, suspect something to do with fuel pump, can any on help..

Check for spark if it cranks and wont start most likely u dont have spark , remove #1 spark plug wire and put a screw driver in it doin that touch ground crank it and see if there any spark jump to ground

Seat Ibiza 2006 car keeps cutting out whilst driving what is the cause of this


Could be so many things need more info. When it cuts out, does it act as if it's running out of fuel-- sputtering, or just dead on/off? If the latter, I would suspect bad ignition module, coil, crank/cam sensor. If the former, could be fuel pump, relay, filter. These intermittent problems can be tricky.

I suspect that it is in the starter and the problem will be in the starter pinion gear and over run clutch. There will be no codes for this area as it is not electronically controlled . I would have the starter bench tested to eliminate it as a source of the problem as it may also be the armature is poling out ( worn bushes)

Cold weather ,this vehicle needs new glow plugs from the sound of description but if engine hot and its still not starting the its drawing in air ,or from experiance the fuel pump is allowing the fuel to run back and i think this year had a common rail pump with a built in lift pump ,if so then fit a non return valve in the supply and one in the return ,their small aluminium bodied valves available from the auto factor ,or you have to remove the injector pump and have it overhauled ? 600 euros plus labour for removing the pump and in the UK this could cost over a 1000 POUNDS

You are describing two different problems but I think I understand that the vehicle cranks over, tries to start but stalls right away (your last sentence "vehicle not cranking" suggests that there is an issue with the starter or the battery is dead).

Without question the first thing I would do is check fuel pressure. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge lift up the drivers rear seat, pull back the carpet, remove the access panel. You are now looking at the top of the fuel pump. When you try to start the vehicle can you hear/feel it running? If not than its probably no good.

Fuel pumps are pretty common on theses.

The sound you are describing is the fuel pump. When you first turn the key to the on position, the fuel pump pressurizes the system. This could be fix by replacing the fuel pump or even something more simple like a fuse to they fuel pump relay or the inertia switch that some vehicles are equipped with has tripped, which in this case, it's usually located in the trunk, behind the carpet, on the sides of the vehicle. It will have a small button that can be pushed back in. Hope this helps direct you in the right direction and good luck!

How long are you cranking for,if you have allowed to run out of fuel, it needs to be primed, try pouring diesel into the fuelfilter, but I used tohave the 110bhp AFN passat and it would start after cranking for a while and then cut out, then start but possibly cut out again, then start and give it some throttle, should be fine after that.

did u hit a bump ? on the passeger side kick panel feel for the fuel cut off switch and see if it triped! while cranking look at the dash to see if the theft lite is on wile cranking!! if yes try another key! if it doesnt work bang on fuel tank !!! suspect bad fuel pump

Cuts off while driving usually starts back up in 10 or 15 minutes


get some brake cleaner. Next time spray some when it doesnt start. If it starts you will need a fuel pump. I
If it atill doesnt start I'd suspect a coil or crank sensor as being the issue.
But first rotate the ASD relay under the hood with the horn relay. If you never have this issue again then you found the problem.
Also be aware there is a fuel pump relay there also which can cause stall and no start issues.
