My fuel tank is empty but it won't allow me to fill the tank. It starts spilling out of the fill tube after 1/2 a gallon

Hi

I ran into this problem a few years ago with a rental truck.
The culprit was a gas line freeze.
I ended up having to disconnect the return line (CAREFUL HERE! FUEL WILL SPRAY OUT UNDER PRESSURE) then reconnect it.

After that, we were good to go.

Be careful

Car was starting perfect until wife tried to start when petrol tank empty have put petrol in car it runs appox 2-3 seconds then cuts out appears fuel being cut off

sounds like fuel pump is running but can not produce enough pressure. try pressurizing the tank with compressed air(may have an air lock) and if that doesnt work consult your local jag dealer for tips before you replace the fuel pump....

My 89 sedan deville starts and then cuts off like its not getting any fuel is the fuel pump bad plus i ran out of gas about six times before that happen

You could get a buddy to turn the key to the on and off position a few times while you hold the valve stem on the fuel rail on top of the motor to get the air out of the lines. It probably has a air lock int lines

My car ran out of fuel. I filled it with a gallon. Now my car starts but cranks and stops after few seconds. Do I need to bleed air from the fuel lines? How?

No by you running the car completely out of gas and then putting 1 gallon back in tank, you stired up the residue in tank and the fuel filter is plugging up with all the residue. The best thing to do is remove the fuel filter and replace it with a new filter. Hope this will help you.

Check your manual for Bleeding the system. Sounds like you have air in the fuel lines. Look in your manual also at Changing your fuel filter. It will
explain the right way to get the air out. Did the manual say where the cut out switch was??? That would be the switch that shuts the fuel off to stop the engine.

Ran out of diesel on a 96 vw transporter van, what do I do, I've put deisel in the tank now what?

Need to change the fuel filter first, you may pulled some debris from the fuel tank. After replacing the filter you must prime the system to get it to start. Have a strong battery as you may have to crank a while to get the air out of the system. You can get the air out bt loosening a couple of the injector lines at the injector, crank engine untill fuel comes from the lines, continue to crank engine till it starts to run, will run rought untill you tighten the lines and let it run for a few seconds,. sounds more complicayed than it really is. Let me know if this helped

Fuel filter

Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key on?
Turn the ignition switch on/off five times to pressurize system.
The pump should humm a few seconds then cut off. Check the fuel pressure regulator? Remove or loosen the fuel line and see if you are getting fuel to and through the new filter. If your vehicle was running before you replaced the filter you shouldnt have to bleed any air out of it.
Good luck...i hope this helps..please rate me a fixya.

right where the fuel filter is there is a primer you break the breather nut close back then prime(pump)break you will get air and deisel frouthy like bubble do this till deisel (fuel)comes clear,.,or start engine and break #1 injector line you wil see frouth lock back proceed to do remaining 3 injectors till frouth is out you will find engine dying every time you break injector,so lock off and continue with rest till it idle good
