The problem is either the switch or the motor.

did you check ALL the fuses? There is a fuse box in the engine compartment as well as one behind the kick plate either by the driver side or the passenger side, on some vehicles on both sides inside the car.
If the instrument lights stopped working, there is a good chance that some or all of the park lights are also out, especially if the problem was caused by a faulty trailer plug which affects the park lights, stop lights and indicator lights only.

I have a 1997 Ford escort. The drivers side electric window has ceased working. Passenger side ok. What is the possible solution please

The window regulator has failed or the wiring to it or the switch is defective for the window. If the switch is ok you should see the dome light dim slightly when the window switch is operated with the door open to keep the light on, better to do this at night. If the interior lights dims a tiny bit then the motor is defective and you will need to replace the window regulator.

56 reg Kia Sportage Diesel XS. The only window that operates is the driver's one. The other three have just ceased to work. I presume it is a blown fuse, but which one and where is the fuse box? Tony

The power windows all work on the same fuse. You may want to check the "lock" switch, it prevents all but the drivers window from operating & is right beside the other switches. You may need to consult the owners manual to see exactly which switch itis but it's usually located right next to the door lock switch.

Other than that, it's extremely unusual for the other 3 windows to not work at the same time.

There is the possibility that the "lock" switch has bad connections or has had something spilled into the area where it is, causing it to act as though you've pushed it. The troubleshooting would more than likely involve starting with the main control switch & working towards each door from there.

good luck

Slow power windows

More than likely , but try some silicone spray down sides where window slides up & down, (felt) it may help lessen the load on the motor. I have extended the life by removing door panel & lubricating all the slides & guides the window runs up & down on. It may buy you some time anyway.

Rearend or transfer case

sounds like you "had" a leaking rear-end.....and now u have a blown out ceased rear-end.....either you can have it rebuilt or have a new on put on....what caused the smoke was probably the fluid got low because of the leak causing the bearings in the rear-end assembly to heat up real bad and cease causing the truck to lock up the tires....lemme know what happens
