Question about 1997 Cadillac DeVille

2 Answers

1994 Cadillac Concours started displaying messages "Engine Overheated", "Coolant hot", "Stop Engine". Started giving messages intermittenly and would go away after a mile or two. Now is constant and doesn't go away. Coolant is not hot, doesn't gush out when the cap is removed with car running or not. The reservoir is full of coolant, heater works great, no leaks, engine does not appear to be hot, no hot smells, etc. Could it be a bad sensor and what sensor would it be and where would it be located??? Stranded 350 miles from home.

Thanks Jman.... Where is the engine/coolant sensor located and where are the main relays located??? I do hear some clicking in the engine compartment with the engine idling like a relay is going on and off.

Thanks Ronaldbrains. That's how I troubleshoot things on my Corvairs. I know them inside so know where all the relays/etc. are. Problem is, I don't know where things like that are on the Caddy. Lots of stuff to look at without a manual to guide me. Guess I shoulda drove my 65 Corvair to instead.

Am getting P073 code (Intermittant coolant sensor signal). Where is the coolant sensor located on the 4.6L Northstar engine on my 1994 Cadillac Concours?? I purchased a new one but can't find where the old one is located on the engine. Picture or diagram would help. HELP!!!!

im not sure on your car but there should be a coolant temp. sensor right under the coolant reservoir or check and follow your upper radiator hose and should be close to that

main relays are on either right or left side when you open the hood of your car its a small black box it should have a diagram tellin you names of the relays and numbers

Well you have a **** of a problem and im not 100% on your type but a few things to try is the earth wire to the body from the engine its a small black wire ,other wise get a piece of wire 4ft long and 2 small clips on it,now just clip onto battery earth lug and touch things like behind the dash/engine/radiator/etc and also check all relays and fuses, and yes also check all sensors.
It sounds something simple and so its just chech/chech you should find it.Well i hope you do and have a goodday tomorrow. RON

I have a 1994 Cadillac Concours. When I left the store the motor started shaking, then it quit. Then right before I got home it started shaking again.

If the car is running well, the issue could be a motor mount. A bad motor mount will give you the symptom of vibrating or shaking.

On my car, which is the same as yours, it is located on the manifold top back left. Pictures in the book just show it on top.
