The problem has come up at least once a week, but what you have to do is to remove the oil from the auto pan and remove the pan ,inside you will see a mrico filter on the pick up pipe ,it must be 100% clean to allow the trans oil to pass through,if its clean then the oil should be clean and the problem could be either the body valve assy or the forward pump or the band on the forward drive needs a 1/2 a turn to the right, refill with Dextron II and start and run ,,let it stand for 1/2 hr and recheck the oil level in trans.
Let me know how you get on RON

Transmission/Gear Issues I have a 01 Lincoln Continental... I have about 172k miles on it and having issues with it going into 3rd gear. Goes through 1st and 2nd fine but as it goes in to third it feels...

You have too much fluid in the transmission. Park on level ground. After a 15 min drive. Leave engine running. Set parking brake. Transmssion in neutral. Check tranny fluid. A cup or more over will cause this. Better to have less than too much. Drain at least a full 1 leter bottle. Go for drive check it again. As above.

When it is cold out and I start the car in the morning and put the car into drive there is a hesitation for up to 5 or six seconds

In really cold parts of the country that is pretty normal. Your automatic transmission fluid needs a few seconds to expand and build pressure. Let the car warm up for a minute or so on those really cold mornings.

When the car is put into drive, it takes approximately 30 seconds to catch. At times it does not catch at all and will not go into reverse at all. I just purchased this car that has been in storage for...

the belts are probably slipping. you may be able to get by with replacing the fluid, if that doesn't work you will need an overhaul to replace the seals.

I CAN NOT SHIFT THR TRANS INTO NUTRAL SO I CAN TOW IT BEHIND MY MOTOR HOME. IT WILL SHIFT INTO 2H, 4H, 4L

Shifting to NEUTRAL
To shift the transfer case to NEUTRAL, first make sure
the vehicle is parked so that it will not roll:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Start the vehicle.
3. Connect the vehicle to the towing vehicle.

the clutch pedal pressed for vehicles with
manual transmission.
5. Shift the transfer case to 2HI.
6. Simultaneously press and hold the 2HI and
4LO buttons for 10 seconds. The red NEUTRAL
light will come on when the transfer case shift to
NEUTRAL is complete.
7. Shift the transmission to REVERSE (R) for one

for one second or FIRST (1) for vehicles with
manual transmission.
8. Turn the ignition to OFF.
9. Place the transmission shift lever in PARK (P) or
FIRST (1) for vehicles with manual transmission.
10. Release the parking brake prior to towing.

Transmission not going into gear right

Check and make sure that you have the correct amount of tranny fluid. If so one way to find out if it's the tranny is to disconnect the linkage at the transmission and put it in gear there. If it works normal that way you know it's the linkage and not the tranny.

How do i change trans fluid in 1993 for econoline.

You must remove the transmission pan to change the fluid, there is no drain plug.

2000 Subaru Outback transmission problem

After a good deal of research and several shops suggesting a rebuild of the transmission, I decided to have the trans fluid and filters changed before doing anything. It was a tough call because it could have been a waste of $125. As soon as the spin off filter was removed you could see it was blocked. So the hydraulic pressure in the system was way down, still enough to engage reverse and enough to work all the shifts, but not enough to engage forward without a slight tap on the accelerator.

My Subaru has 240 000 km on it and I suppose the clutch pack rebuild wouldn't hurt, but as it is now it engages quickly and shifts up are noticeably smoother.

May not be the solution for every case, but it solved my situation.

Transmission

yeah its something else..

on the selector is a bushen (something like a washer) its proberally worn and needs changing. I'd recommend taking this to a auto technician mechanic ,, cause after its replaced or adjusted you will need to adjust the kick down cable as well..

it may also be a mountain(engine or transmission) mountain rubber.
