Hi MB,

No worries on that one. It's just a hose. Have at it.

Best regards

What is the part name for the hose on top of my Protege DX valve cover?

Just the hose or the PCV (not pvc) valve? The hose is probably a dealer-only item - go to the Mazda parts department w/the broken piece and they'll get you a new one. The PCV is avl. @ most auto parts stores - and is cheap - <$20.

I have a 1992 grand Marque V8 and i hear a hissing noise coming from this thing connected to the left head cover

sounds like it could be the pcv valve, first check to see that the vacuum line/hose is connected properly and not cracked. If loose press back on, if cracked replace line/hose. If those are good check to see if the valve is in the cover enough to seal. If it is not wiggle it in till it seals, also maybe the pcv valve is broken replace with new one if all other suggestions are not the cause

When I press the accelerator I hear a hiss.... then when I try to apply the brakes, it locks

Vacuum leak. Listen under hood near intake manifold & larger line going to the back of master cylinder (power brake booster) & pcv valve. Look for broken, collapsed or missing hoses.Repair or replace hoses.

Remove PCV valve from rocker cover. Run engine at i
dle. Place thumb over open end of PCV valve to
check for vacuum. If there is no vacuum at valve, c
heck for obstruction in manifold port, hoses or PCV
valve. Repair or replace as necessary.

Turn engine off. Remove PCV valve. Shake valve and
listen for rattle of check valve inside. If a clear
rattle is not heard, replace PCV valve.

Visually inspect valve for varnish or deposits whic
h may make PCV valve operation sticky, restricted o
r
cause incomplete seating of valve. Replace if neces
sary. An engine must be sealed for the PCV system t
o
function as designed. If leakage, sludging or dilut
ion of oil is noted AND the PCV system is functioni
ng
properly, check engine for cause and repair as requ
ired to insure PCV system will continue to function
properly. An engine operating without any crankcase
ventilation can be damaged so it is important to
replace PCV valve and air cleaner breather at regul
ar intervals (at least every 30,000 miles). Check a
ll hoses
and clamps for failure or deterioration.

How difficult is it to change the PCV valve. 2004

PCV is an acronym for positive crankcase ventilation.
The PCV Valve is a very common replacement item on many engines today. It's called the PCV valve for short but it stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. When your engine spins it many times collects pressure in the crankcase area, and it has to escape to relieve pressure on the motors bearings and seals. The PCV valve and PCV system is typically located near the intake manifold, and many times comes right off of the valve cover. It is very simple to replace the PCV valve, and you can do so by simply unscrewing it, and screwing in the new valve. We recommend using a little bit of teflon tape or paste to make sure you do not get any oil leaks.
Example (see picture below): 2,4 ltr. Audi V6 engine (BDV, AMM)

if you fallow the hose comming out of air filter assembley it should lead you to the pcv valve the hose goes to the pcv and should come right off then you take the pcv valve out of the valve cover by just pulling it out and replace it with a new one
