My 1987 GMC s15 automatic 4x4 pickup keeps popping out of normal gear. The only gear it stays in is 4 low. Where do I start?

I'm assuming you're talking about the transfer case popping out of 2 high or even 4 high. It could be that the transfer case needs a chain or gears replaced and is slipping on the cogs/gears. In 4 low it takes less pressure/strain to move the vehicle so it doesn't slip. I would put the trans. AND transfer case in neutral, with the FRONT wheels blocked, and NOT running, jack at least one rear wheel off of the ground, and try turning the rear drive shaft back and forth to feel the free play (free play in the transfer case, not the rear end). Excessive free play should tell you that the drive chain/gears are very warn and could be slipping. That would be a start.

A friend pushed the 2 w.d. button into my dash, I got it out but now it's stuck in 4 high and will not switch into 2 or 4 low it's just stuck on 4 high

you can pop that whole piece out and be able to see the wires. its relatively easy, its just some plastic prongs that hold the that in. if the wires are still connected then you will have to replace the switch.

How do i change a headlight

1.FACE THE VEHICLE SO THAT BATTERY IS ON YOUR RIGHT;

2. REMOVE THE BLACK PLASTIC PIECE THAT RUNS OVER RADIATOR BETWEEN HOOD LATCH AND FAN. IT IS ABOUT 53 1/2" LONG AND HOLDS THE HOOD PROP CLIP. (3 PLASTIC PUSH RETAINERS & 2 SHEET METAL SCREWS);

3. REMOVE THE GRILL ASSEMBLY UNDERNEATH THE PIECE IN STEP 2 BY PUSHING DOWN FIRMLY ON 4 RETAINER CLIPS WHICH RUN ALONG THE TOP. USE A WIDE SLOT SCREWDRIVER. PULL UP GENTLY ON GRILL ASSEMBLY. IT WILL POP OUT. THE GRILL ASSEMBLY EXTENDS UNDER EACH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (HA) AND IT DISPLAYS THE CHEVROLET LOGO IN THE MIDDLE. MY GRILL ASSEMBLY POPPED OUT EASILY AND ALL THE OTHER RETAINER CLIPS ON THE BOTTOM AND BENEATH AND TO THE SIDE OF HA WERE AUTOMATICALLY RELEASED WITHOUT ANY FUSS;

4. ON TOP OF HA SEE ONE TAB (ABOUT 1" LONG)ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND ONE ON THE LEFT (THE ONE ON L IS CLOSER TO THE FENDER);

5. PULL UPWARD DIRECTION ON TABS. THEY WILL SLIDE UPWARD A COUPLE OF INCHES AND WILL RELEASE THE HA WHICH YOU CAN THEN PULL OUT TOWARDS YOU;

6.AT BACK OF THE HA, REMOVE 2 ROUND RUBBER CAPS (ABOUT 4" IN DIAMETER)--ONE FOR LOW BEAM--ONE FOR HIGH. REVEAL BULBS. UNSNAP THE WIRE HARNESS FROM BULB BASE AND TURN BULB 1/4 TURN CLOCKWISE (REMEMBER YOU ARE FACING THE TRUCK)

7.REPLACE BULB(S). #9006 BULB IS GRAY-BASE, FOR HIGH BEAM ON OUTSIDE. #9005 IS BLACK-BASE, LOW BEAM TO INSIDE OF HIGH BEAM.

CHANGING HIGH AND LOW AND REASSEMBLY TOOK ABOUT HALF HOUR. GOOD LUCK.

ALTERNATIVE:
IF YOU ARE REPLACING THE PASSENGERSIDE HEADLIGHT JUST REMOVE THE AIR FILTER COVER AND PULL PLUG OUR FROM BEHIND HEADLIGHT AND REPLACE. BE CAREFUL HANDLING LIGHT BULB.
TO CHANGE THE ONE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE JUST REACH IN FRONT OF THE BATTERY TO ACCESS THE PLUG AND HEADLILGHT. TOOK ABOUT 5 MINUTES. ENJOY YOU TRAILBLAZER, GREAT TRUCK.
Thank you for using fixya

you need to pull the switch out of the dash and look behind the swict hfor the actuator, chances are the stud that touchs the actual relay is broken use a pen or something slender and long to push it to the desiref position, other than thats go to a junk yard and look for that switch, should just pop out with a lil prying..

1994 K1500 4 Wheel Drive Issue

No probably not, first check the fuse for the 4wd in the fuse box if that's OK its likely the actuator on the front axle..........providing the shifter handle moves to the proper location and if its push button the lights light in the switch when selected...the actuator plugs into the wiring harness and screws into the front differential.an easy remove and replace part even for a novice.

I would check your linkage for proper adjustment.If that is ok check for bad trany mounts creating to much movement making it pop out.
