Question about 1993 Ford F150 SuperCab

Im running my 93 F150 302 with no catalyic converters, and no EGR system . Check engine lights is on and runs rich at idle and lean driving down the road ?

Change the temp coolant sensor,and it will change the lean ,rich situation.

Catalytic converters clogging up. Remove the O2 sensor before the converter or loosen up the exhaust pipe at the manifold. It will be load, but if you get your power back, replace the converter.

Truck shuts down when it goes to idle


Hi.

Check idle air control system. The system comprises a valve that allow extra air into the engine when the engine is idle. If the valve is stuck, if there is a problem with IAC wiring or solenoid or if the vacuum hose connected to the IAC has a leak you get engine running rough and turning off when idle.

Check air intake and sensor (MAF and AIT). Replace air filter. Air intake problems may result in rich mixture and in engine turning off.

Check EGR and PCV valves. These parts may cause rough idle. When the problem is EGR or PCV you usually get troubles also when driving.

I replaced intake manifold on 1998 gmc serria 1500 5.0 liter it got rid of the erratic idling but now if I go above 50 mph I have a loud whining and the engine service light flashes on and off if i let off...


get the failure codes! flashing "service engine soon" lamp means you are damaging your catalyic converters. you could have restricted converters also either too lean fuel mix or or too rich fuel mix. the only other way the lamp flashes is if the engine is misfiring. bottom line, get the codes first so i can help further. the codes will lead you to the problem. it will not necessarily tell you what the problem is.

when a check engine light is flashing it means you have serious problem that could cause major damage like lots of misfires from poor tune up components which will cause a clogged catalyic converter or a lean condition which could burn valves stop driving it and have it scanned

Check engine light comes on after approx. one minute. My code reader gives me a 214 in continuous memory ( cylinder ID circuit failure). I clear the code and it comes back. What is giving me this code?...


look 214 is not a valid code for a 1995 escort, this is an OBD1 system. here is a list of trouble codes for this year of ford no matter the model.

You should find the diagnostic connector under your hood normally by the fender on the battery side. By just using your test light and a jumper wire, it will tell you what kind of problem you got.

KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) TEST
Model years 1984-1995 all models of Ford
1. Make sure engine is fully warmed. If in doubt, run engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes.
2. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds for system to shut off. Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).
3. Hook up light and jumper (or a tester if you have one). Turn key to ON (do not start engine). Read the codes.

How to do it?

Example code 23: your test light should flash 2 long consecutive flashes followed by 3 short pulses.

Runs Fuel rich-miledge is down 50%, exhaust smells rich


Needs to be put on scan tool to get the readings of the o2 sensor and tps sensor and see if they are correct. Also check for stopped up converter.

Engine won't idle


problem sounds like IAC (idle air control) or EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) Is there a check engine (MIL) light on with rhe issue. I just replaced an EGR valve on a camry this weekend with the same issue.

P1133 code


I have a 1998 Chevorlet Monte Carlo, and a I just got a p1133 code a week ago. I have my own diagnostics equipment, and the code is for "Oxygen sensor insufficient switching(upstream)"
I believe the codes are manufacturer specific so the code should be the same for all chevy's. The upstream oxygen sensor is located in the exhaust system before the catalyic converter. An ideal voltage for the sensor is .45v, but the sensor should switch between .1 and .9, when there is insufficient switching it causes the engine to run both too lean and too rich at times. Too lean could cause the engine to missfire and run rough. Hope this helps.
