2004 expedition, when brakes applied steering wheel vibrates

2004 expedition, when brakes applied steering wheel shakes. Changed rotors and pands on front, seemed to been almost gone just very little vabration could hardly tell. 6000 miles later steering wheel vibrating extremely bad. noticed inside of front left tire worn alot more than rest of tire. could this be wheel bearing or ball joints. Thanks

I just had tire's rotated, ball joints, and wheel bearings checked. They said everything was tight on the front end. So they said must be rotors even though I changed them 10,000 miles ago. So I changed the rotors and smooth stopping for a 1000 miles now the vibration is starting to come back again, very little shaking right now but like last time I believe it will get gradually worse.

I'm not sure how to check the idler arm, How can you tell if it needs replacing. And should I replace more than just the idler arm if I needed to replace it.
    Thanks

look on passenger side under the front, you will see where an arm bolts to the frame, looks like a vertical piece of pipe, that connects to the steering arm that goes across to the driver side.Have someone inside turning the steering wheel back and forth quickly, and watch that joint for excessive movement. The idler will usually wear out at approx 100,000 miles.if its bad,the part cost about $100.00,and its probably the heavy duty part..

Why does it shake whenever i let off the gas and shakes real bad when i apply my brakes

If when applying the brakes the steering wheel shakes then your front rotors are warped and at the least need resurfaced and most likely the brake pads replaced. But more likely the rotors are too thin which has allowed them to overheat and warp which causes the shaking. In this case new rotors and pads are in order. If when braking tou feel the shaking in the seat of your pants then most likely the rear brakes are the issue. Same problem as the front, warpage, but your rear brakes are most likely drums. Again, possible resurfacing and new shoes; but more likely new drums and brake shoes.

But I wonder? Did this vibrating just start all of a sudden or maybe after a near accident requiring you to brake very heavily and possibly overheat the brakes. Or my main concern, to keep this from happening again, after pulling some type of trailer that you intend on pulling again. Pulling a trailer without its own brakes puts a much heavier load on your trucks brakes and just repairing them won't keep it from happening again if you ARE pulling a trailer. Higher quality rotors/pads/drums/ and brake shoes can help but if the trailer is too heavy for the truck nothing but installing brakes on the trailer or a lighter trailer will stop you from warping them again.

Lastly, in general when you let off the gas and the whole vehicle shakes the driveshaft/u-joints are common causes. Same with the steering wheel if it shakes when letting off the gas, but only on a 4x4 or AWD vehicle. So check your driveshafts and u-joints and make sure they are tight. But unless you find something obvious there I would wait until you have the brakes sorted out and see if that doesn't stop all the shaking.

Good luck!

My 2004 cadillac deville is shaking in a low idle why is that

Does it occur when you apply the brakes? A warped rotor will cause a shake or shutter (primarily felt in the steering wheel and brake pedal) when the brake are applied. Most shops no longer resurface brake rotors any longer because of the reduced prices for a new replacement rotor, but resurfacing a rotor will bring the rotor true (even no wobble) and take away any brake shimmy or shaking.

Steering wheel shakes at high speed when brakes are applied

This is caused by the front disk brake rotors being warped from heat and running out of true, the wobble of the warped rotors causes the wheel to shake when you apply the brakes, it is worse the higher the speed you apply them at. Have the front rotors machined flat again or just replace them.

When brakes applied the steering wheel shakes.

Your disc brake rotors are warped. Solution? Remove the disc brake rotors and have them turned on a brake lathe. Warpage comes from a hot disc brake rotor going through a puddle of water which causes the warpage. If you have a Parking Brake, get in a safe area and when stopping, ONLY apply the parking brake. If the steering wheel stops shaking...there's your problem...warped disc brake rotors.

My 2003 expedition EB vibrates when applying brakes

the front rotors are warped ahd either need to be turned or replaced. use quality parts and motorcraft pads. if you use cheap rotors, they stand the chance of either being warped upon install or warping soon after.
