You can hand shampoo it using clean water then hit it with a shop vac or other powerful wet/dry machine. It will eventually dry out. The problem is that moisture and odors will lay under it. You can take the whole carpet out of the car yourself and use a carpet cleaner, letting it fully dry before reinstalling. Generally this will require removing seats, consoles, and interior trim. If you are not experienced at this and don't have the proper tools, it can be a time consuming chore.

Otherwise contact a car/truck stereo installation shop. I find these folks are reasonable to pay for removal and reinstallation of the carpet and may also cheaply clean it for you.

Lastly you may just get a whole new carpet, look on ebay, and stuff that in there.

First thing to do is to get it as dry as possible by sucking the water up with a wet vacumme. Then if can remove the seats and the carpet and hang it to dry.The wet vac should get you back up and running but the carpets won't completely dry untill removed and have the air flow through and around them for a few days.

Go to the home depot or another store and invest in a wet /dry vac this would be cheeper then having a detail shop do it . and if it happens again you know what to do .it will be less money and you could always use the vac on many other things.

Just bought a 1987 monticarol ss with 58.000 orginal miles gave the car a complete tune up running fine .yesterday i flooded the car out now cant get it to start

Hi Alex:
Check to make sure you're getting spark.
Why it flooded is really important.
When you had the plugs out, were they wet and fouled or dry.
If dry, you're not getting fuel.
If wet, you're not getting spark.
I'd replace all plugs, or at least remove and heat them with a propane torch to clean and dry the electrodes.

E.C.U. fuse burn

Can you be more specific on the flood, by the car working all, do you mean that the electronics function? There is a good chance if your car was in fact submerged it is possible the ECU has become wet and is shorting the fuse, you will need to pull the carpet back on the passenger side and possibly the plastic cover, to expose the ECU. Check for moisture anywhere around the ECU or wires going to it. This is a common problem with flooded cars.

Could the sloshing water be in your roof lining? If the rain seeped in at the windscreen or back window, it could be in the lining. In that case the lining would have to be removed and probably replaced. To find out, just push on the lining with your hand in several places.

floods are a bad deal for houses and yards but there hell on cars most offten the car that is flooded is totaled out cause the cost to fix it is more then what the car is worth. i would have to say check the fuses for your seats and then check the motor on the seat to see if its still soaked sometimes they dry out and work fine and sometimes they dont ever work again i would start with the fuses then dig a lil deeper and see if there is power going to the seat if there is, is the power going to the motor if not fix what is stoping the power.

It probably is flooded from trying to start it.Originally the the air tube probably was packed with snow so the engine wasn't drawing air in. If you turn the key on and push the gas pedal to the floor this should activate what is called clear flood mode.If it will not still start would suggest removing all the sparkplugs and cleaning or replacing them also make sure that the air induction tube is clear and dry.

Your car probably has AC so the box under the hood has a drain for removed moisture and this can often clog with environmental debris; when that happens, the water can't drain any more and may end up inside the car.

Water leaking into 2005 Camry 6 cyl under carpet drivers side.

I think that I can help you. It sounds like your drain-tube is plugged up. Get in the passenger side, and pull the carpet back from under the glove box. Look for a black rubber pipe that goes from a black box, and pokes thru the firewall, on the passenger side. Remove the hose from the box, and have a container ready to catch water. If water comes out of the black box, your drain hose is plugged up. Clean out the clog, and you will be golden.

Audi 2005 A6 4.2 Flooded cabin,Navigation not working....help!

Wow I thought they would have fixed this on the newer body style. My old 2000 A6 had the same issue. There is a drain in front of the bulkhead that gets blocked, in my case by pine needles from my tree. I used a coat hanger to clear it and then cleaned it every couple of months and no more drowning carpet. It used to be next to the battery(which they moved to the trunk) under the windshield wiper motor. I haven't checked the exact location on my 2005 but good to know it's still an issue.
