will check the starter but I don't think thats it,Its the chip on the key orrrr a reset for the alarm. Either way unless you can tell me HOW TO RESET THE ALARM then you've only told me things I already know. To the dealer I go.

Have the battery cables cleaned really good, and the battery post, and check the battery also to see if it is good, this may be all that it is.

Check ,with a test light, the ignition wire to the starter,to see if it is getting 12 volts when the key is in the start position. If it is,then replace the starter. If it is not ,the code key,is the problem, and the dealer will have to replace it.

If the alarm will not go off,and you can not make it stay off, then there is a breech somewhere,no reset, there is a breech, when you cut the alarm off, this is a reset, there is a breech,a bad door jam, hood switch, etc, check for these items, something is not secure.

Before going any further into this I would first suggest inspecting battery connections and make sure that this is not caused by a failing battery. When a battery begins to fail at times it can make it seem like it is something else by showing the lights as working but causing relays to click and odd things on dash such as flashing lights,I would check the battery voltage if possible actually have battery tested at a parts store out of vehicle.

Your owners manual will show you the location of the relay, for the lights, swap the lights relay with another on. Also, if the light switch is working, and the fuse is good, you will be able to hear the relay click. Have a helper run the light switch while you listen for it to click.

The security system does not disable the starter, it only disables fuel to the engine. In the fuse block under the hood, locate the STARTER relay. Place your hand on this relay and see if it clicks while someone else turns the key to start...if the relay is ok then the starter itself is faulty. Good luck, i hope this helps.

I had a similar problem on my 2001 Caravan. Turned out to be a loose connection between the frame control module and the fuse box. I unscrewed the frame/front control module from the fuse box and bent the tabs slightly to make better contact. Then tighten down the module securley. Need star driver to loosen screws

S type jaguar won't start.won't turn over , lights come on jn dash ,you can also hear a clicking sound in the fuse panel on the passenger side.

If the starter is rapidly clicking when you turn the key, then it is insufficient battery current. You may enough power to power the lights, but not enough to keep the starter engaged. Try connecting a jumper. If a relay is clicking, you will need hands-on professional diagnosis
