Question about 1980 Chevrolet Corvette
I have a 1980 Corvette. The battery light comes on bright when I turn the ign. to On. When the motor is running, the light stays on but is not as bright. I checked Alt. output and I am getting 15.1V when the alt. is spinning. The battery reads 12.5V when the car is off. The voltage responds when I turn on the lights by dropping but comes back to 15.1 quickly. It seems that the system is working correctly but the Battery light being on (although dimmer) worries me. I don't want to be stranded somewhere. Where can I check from here?
The voltage is a little high.It should be at 14.25 volts, this in time will boil the acid out of the battery, the alternator has diodes in it that change the a c voltage to d c voltage, and at least on diode is bad. This is also charging the battery with some a c voltage values, not enough to worry about, except in the long run,or another diode will go out.The reason the voltage is a little to high,is because of the a c voltage, replace the alternator.
