Question about 2000 Hyundai Sonata

1 Answer

I bought a new battery for my 2000 sonata, and then after putting in the battery, the car would not turn on. So we checked the clamps and everything to make sure they were connected. And after switching back to my old battery and back to the new one we got the car back working. So when I went to leave the store, the car would sputter badly, and now i cannot go over 20 mph. any ideas? I watched the guy put the battery in and even helped in and he did nothing wrong, so this whole problem is weird as before i bought the battery there were no problems with the car stalling besides on cold mornings when it took awhile to get up to speed.

The alarm system may have to relearn, and the body control module may have to relearn,I would drive it a long distance to see if this stands true. Also, most of the time you have to get the e c m re flashed at the dealer,it is a wonder it stated at all.

Hi Allen:
The first thing that I would check would be the battery.
- Fully charged
- correct terminals
- clamps for corrosion inside
- wires

Check your convience and vanity type lighting to be sure they are shutting off( underhoodlight, glove box, back sun visor mirror lights, etc...). Next you can use a clamp on amp draw gun and follow the draw thru the harness to the problem. This tool is available at most auto parts stores. Also, just because a battery is new doesn"t mean it Good!

How do i replace the battery terminal in my 2005 hyundai sonata?

  • Do you mean the actual terminal on the battery itself? If this is the case you cannot do this. If the battery terminal itself is loose then you need to replace that battery immediately.

  • Now if you are referring to the battery cable you tighten up on the battery terminal this can be replaced. First get a battery saver from the parts store. This cost around $5 and you plug this unit into your cigarette lighter. It uses a 9 Volt battery and when inserted into your cigarette lighter outlet preserves the code in your car for your radio.

  • Now you can remove both battery cables.
  1. Get a battery clamp from the parts store. As long as it is made for top posts you will be fine.
  2. Now take some diagonal pliers and cut as close to the original clamp as possible.
  3. Throw the old clamp away.
  4. Strip all the wires going to the old clamp 1/2" back to expose the braid.
  5. Now insert the wires into the clamp and screw them wires onto the clamp FIRST.
  6. THEN hook the batter clamp up to the battery.
  7. Now double check your work.
  8. Now hook up the other cable.
  9. Remove battery saver.
  10. Test by turning car on.
  11. Jon complete.

are you sure you got the right battery replacement? sounds like you've changed the size or shape of your key.put the old battery back into your remote and then try to manually unlock doors with your key.or if you've thrown the old battery away try putting the remote back together with out any battery in it,at least you'll be able to gain access your car again until you can get the right battery. hope this helps! thank you for choosing fixya.com let me know if this works please. thank you

Have bought new battery for 2000 hyundai sonata, still wont crank engine. What could be the problem?

I assume your motor crankshaft is not 'seized' or otherwise locked up.

Check your battery terminals are clean and firmly attached,
Check battery ground connection is securely connected to the chassis and the motor/chassis ground connection is intact.
Check for 'click' sound as starter solenoid is engaged when Ignition sw set to 'start' position.
If no noise from starter motor, and +12v applied to the starter engage solenoid terminal, then the starter motor may be faulty.
