Question about 1999 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

I have a 1999 gmc yukon 5.7 litre v8 4wd with 119,000 miles on it. it has been running like a champ until just recently. i noticed that the idle was running low while in park. ive recently replaced the air filter, new fuel filter, fuel pump spark plugs and wires, and until now no problems. i rechecked everything to make sure there were no vacuum problems and there werent, the air intake is fine and the throttle body is clean and in good shape, and the fuel pump is operational and sounds strong, also it starts up fine, and no black smoke leaves the exhaust, but water seems to be dripping out, and the funny thing is there is no check engine light on. Now, as i give it gas directly from the throttle body, it revs perfect with no problems, but when i go inside the truck and actually hit the gas pedal to rev the engine, it sputters and stalls, and it wont rev past 2000 rpms even with the pedal all the way down, and it also back fires with a popping noise out of the air filter box. one last thing, the engine will gradualy get up to speed, but if i mash the gas it shuts down almost completly. I have noticed in prior posts that people have had the same types of problems with aftermarket pumps.? The thing is that the warranty on this pump just expired, and it cost me $300.00. im confuzed and am not sure what too look at, at this point. please help!

My 2001 Yukon XL will tap when idling and the check engine oil pressure light comes on until I give it some gas then it goes away and tapping stops. What is this problem?

Without hearing it, I can only guess. Collapsed lifter or loose connecting rod bearing.

High miles? Maintenance not done on schedule? That would do it.

Multiple misfire on 2004 gmc Yukon 4.8 liter engine, can't diagnose?

Hi kathy
I am sure that your YUKON engine is not idling smooth.
the problem seems to me like you have a vacuum leak, better check inlet manifold and the vacuum hoses.
good luck

Gmc idles rough in cold weather

Check the coolant temp. sensor (It controls warm up RPM, open loop ECU mode) And change the fuel filter every 20,000 miles to prevent water in filter from freezing ( fuel starvation).

I found that a lot of times it is a bad plug wire, or one that is arcing off the block or body. Do you get check engine light?

03 GMC Yukon transmission clunk at idle

2005 Yukon XL 1500 2wd 252,000 miles
It developed a noise like a can full of rocks slowly rolling
It only did it in neutral or park with engine running.
Putting in gear would stop it.
Turned out to be a loose filter element in the transmission.
At least that's what I was told by my mechanic.
Solved the noise though

1999 GMC Yukon. Rear AC cooling great. Font AC not cooling as well. Replaced orfice syphon tube, vaccumed down and recharged with 2lbs R134a. Checked front temp controller. All checks ok. Front AC still...

If the rear is working well and front is not I would suspect a blend door or actuator issue in the front.Double check and see if you can hear anything moving when you are adjusting temperature from hot to cold. Also check and make sure the air flow moves properly from defrost to vents and floor etc.
