Question about 1999 Dodge Ram
My understanding is that the truck won't run with a bad crankshaft position sensor. It is the only way the computer knows when to fir the plugs and injectors at the correct time.

By using a scan tool that has the online monitor function you can see the actual pulses from the sensor the waveform displayed will need to be uniform and repeatable not jump'y and eratic
also a dead giveaway is a crank sensor fault stored in memory
but the best way Replace it problem solved ? YES ? that was it !

You may be able to back probe the connector going to the computer using a multimeter and turn the engine over by hand with the key turned on. If it is working correctly you should se the voltage alternate to "0" and back as the crank turns.

Check the ASD relay in the fuse box. Swap it with the starting relay. If the engine fails to roll over. Thats your problem. If not, check and see if your fuel injector connectors have voltage to them if not its a bad PCM. Hope this helps.
