Question about 2003 Ford Focus

2 Answers

My 2001 ford focus recently started getting a wet carpet on the front passenger side of the floor. This occurs only when the roads are wet when I am driving it. If it is raining and the roads are wet and I don't drive it, it doesn't get wet. Please help. We pulled up the carpet and did 't see an obvious hole or any rust. The door and windows do not appear to be leaking.

It only happens when it's raining &/or roads are wet.

If its not raining then you will need the heater core inspected. Chances are your coolant is low so better check it.

Then the only area it can get in is the front windshield and any vents that are in an area that can allow water to gather. I have seen fords with bad areas that werent sealed inbetween the firewall and the upper welds,,, in where the wiper moter is.

You may have to have the winshield removed to inspect the seal inner areas for leakage, I poor window seal can cause this. You could try to isolate areas and run water from a hose for awhile look under the dash for signs.

Hey Grady..
There are few things that could cause the water intrusion... Is the carpet in the front floorboard wet?.. ..Has it rained recently? This will rule out window seals leaking? Have you opened the trunk and checked to see if water is in the trunk? OK..IF it has not rained, no water in the trunk, AND the front floorboards are wet, then the heater core is leaking...

Grady.. sounds like its either the window seals or the door seals.. check for damaged door seals, cracked window seals..

sounds like the heater core is leaking or you have a ac drain trank that is over flowing on your floor pop your hood look right in front on passenger firewall it will be mounted and its a valve and is hard to see so get flash light look hard its there and open valve let out all water and look under your dash on passenger side take off kick plate there is the heater fan look up see if you can see if the heater core is dripping into your car hope this helps you

windshield gasket. if windshield was recently replaced, it was not installed properly. get it fixed quick or it will rot the carpet, rust the floor, and possibly cause massive electrical problems

If you have a wet seat then it is likely defective weather stripping around the window.

Try this. If the floor is dry, then it rains and the floor remains dry, only gets wet after a drive in the rain or on wet streets, you may have a hole somewhere.

Check for holes from missing rubber grommets or holes in the floorboard or firewall from rust. Check for any rust holes or missing rubber grommets under the car or on the firewall, anywhere water can splash up into the vehicle from driving in rain or running through puddles..

Check wet spots along the carpeting all the way up under the dash, if the wet spot is higher than the floor itself, you could be getting the water from splashing through puddles.

Any holes under the car or in the fenderwell even up on the firewall can cause this problem.

First check for any obvious signs of rust, if none are found then look for missing or defective rubber grommets.

My ford focus st170 is leak foamed water under the carpets passengers sides only and boot passenger side only

air conditioner/heater compressor's or evap canister is leaking on the floor. It is very common with the focus. After time that water begins to stink! Try silicone to seal the leaky component which would be above the floor mat.

Wet floors on passenger side after it rains.

Is it possible the water is actually coming from the A/C evaporator case, whose DRAIN IS CLOGGED ? The water produced by the A/C then leaks out of the case, down under the carpeting, then depending how vehicle is parked, can flow to the rear floors and carpet. Hope this helps
