Question about 1992 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

Truck will start but runs rich and rough. When hitting accelerator, it stutters and kills. Will only start again if floored. Was suggested oxygen sensor might need replacing. 225,000 miles on truck, was tuned 2 months ago, but has been sitting.

Could be Is run to rich. You can have it tested on a machine at your local garage. Or you can try using Gas treatment or fuel injection cleaner to see if that helps. ever witch one you have.

I have a F-150 99 with a code of P1131... Is it that sensor off the exhaust manifold the problem?? I also heard you have to have a special tool for this?? It runs great maybe idles a little rough. Does...

The P1131 means that your upstream oxygen sensor (the one closest to the engine) is not switching rich to lean and back as frequently as it should. This could be due to a vacuum leak, a failing oxygen sensor, or a rich fuel mixture.
Rich mixture - Too much fuel, not enough air.
Lean mixture - Too much air not enough fuel.

My car stutters at idle, and gets worse when i first accelerate from a stop, lately it seems to hesitate till i push the pedal a 1/4 of the way down, then it drives normally, what could it be?

Investigate your oxygen sensor. When it fails it causes your car to run rich which would kill the engine after running for awhile. If there is some one who could come and read the codes on the car would help isolate the problem. Some places will do that for free if you can get it there. Also your fuel pump might be failing. I have had both things happen of different vehicles with similar symptoms.

1997 gmc k1500 seems to be running rich, very rich

If the engine is trying to flood, it will kill the engine. If you have the spider fuel system, it is noted for problems.
If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, also, check fuel injector pulse.
I don't know if this may be a problem? below

Engine starts but it run rough

do a pressure test on the fuel pump. if that tests ok then check your sensors. is it shooting a code (service engine light)? Oxygen sensor at back of cat. converter, crank shaft sensor or throttle position sensor. Unfortunately sensors are hard to trace. These are the suggestions I recd. for my bravada. it idles great but dies about every 1000 feet or so while driving. cut it off and re-crank and go another 1000-2000 ft. and do it again, will start running rough until you kill the ignition and restart the truck. pretty sure mine is a weak fuel pump.
