That's your fuel pump bringing the system up to pressure. Perfectly normal unless it is exceptional loud in which case it could be a sign that the pump may need replacing soon.

Why wont my 1998 gmc 3500 sierra turn over

Check for fuel by pouring small amount of clean gas down throttle body and crank engine over. if it starts and runs just for a few seconds you have a fuel delivery problem. If it still does not run after several attempts check for spark at spark plugs. that should get diagnosis started

My 2000 bmw 328i won't stay running. i crank it up and about 3-4 sec later it shuts off can any give advice

Hi Vlad

This sounds like fuel pump problem, or maybe even a fuel blockage in the filter, as what might be happening is when you trun over the car a small amount of fuel is getting through and then running out quickly and not keeping it running, so either the fuel pump has an intermittent fault and only runs for a short time and stops, or your fuel filter may be blocked and needs replacing, to find out if your fuel pump is ok, turn the key so the lights come on on dash but dont run it, go to the rear of the car and listen to see if you can hear a humming noise, what might be better to do is get someone to be at the back to listen as you turn the key, or get someone to turn the key while you listen, if you hear the pump hum, then that will be ok and then you might have to change the fuel filter. this is what it could be, however there may be other things involved, but that would be a good place to start.

Hope that helps

I have a 2000 escort zx2 with a manual trans. when I crank it, thats all it does, crank. if I pour a little gas down the throttle body and crank, the engine will start and run until that gas is burnt then...

I would have the fuel pump checked, sounds like you are not getting any gas.
Turn the key to the ON position and listen for the pump to hum, if there is no hum your pump is definitely shot or not getting power.
If you hear a hum, you may have a blockage... try a fuel treatment if you want to start simple. If that doesn't work you will need to pull the pump and see if it is actually pumping the fuel

Hyundai accent 2001 will not start all lights work radio works heater fan works battery in 3 months old when I turn the key all i hear is a humming sound for about 1 min. than nothing. weather has be

The humming would be the fuel pump coming on. It should only hum for a few seconds, then shut off.
Your problem is with the start circuit from the battery to the starter, or from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Check the connections at the starter (the big cable) for tightness.
Is the battery charged up enough to turn the engine over? Check by turning headlights on and observe while someone turns key to crank. If they dim a LOT, then either battery is too low, or the starter is bad and needs removing for testing. If brightness doesn't change, then the circuit from ignition switch to starter solenoid is likely not working. Check for 12 volts at the small wire to starter solenoid with key in cranking position. If you have power there, the solenoid may be bad. Remove starter for testing. If no power at solenoid in starting position, then either the ignition switch is bad or the neutral safety switch might be the problem, or the wiring from the switch to the starter solenoid is not passing current.
Good luck.

My Montro cranks but will not start

there could many different problems. do you have any check engine codes? if so have them checked out, because a sensor may have failed causing the engine not to start. then you need to check the fuel pump. stand by the fuel tank and have someone turn the key on, but dont start the car. listen very closely you should hear a small electric motor run for about 5 sec. if you dont hear anything, check the fuse and the relay. when you turn the key on the relay should make a fairly loud click. if no sound is heard the relay needs to be replaced. if you still dont hear the motor your fuel pump has failed.

Engine will not start even though there is enough cranking power

Could be a variety of things, with the information stated. Start with fuel and spark. Is the fuel pump turnnig on with the key (listen for a humming coming from the rear when the key is turned to the on position, should humm for 3-5 sec.) if not than fuel pump is bad or not receiving power. if not than a spark issue could be many things. Good Luck

Is not starting , when u turn the key on- all the relays for the motor kick on for a sec. or two, motor cranks but no power to coil/fuel injectors coil does get power for the sec. or two

any check engine light on? hate to say this but sounds like a ECM (brain) malfunction. but also sounds like a crank position sensor. if check engine light is on find the code and post it for more help.

We pulled the fuel line at the engine and only a small amout of gas seem to come out when cranking the engine

Check voltage at fuel pump with key on will only have voltage at pump for about 3 sec. to check turn key off and back on 3 sec to check voltage, do as many time to you need to check, if you do have voltage, bad fuel pump, no pressure.

2003 BMW 325i - Car won't start. It will crank the (rrr rrr rrr)

Get a DTC scanner and see what it says...in the meantime, check that fuel pump relay and fuel pump. The humming sound is probably the heater blower motor or part of the HVAC system winding down after disconnecting from power.
