Question about Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

It seems to be leaking oil as soon as there's oil pressure. The port has a wire of some type plugged into it. What is this called? What do I do to fix it?

This is a oil sending unit that you can replace yourself, just unscrew the sending unit, and replace it with a new one.

Hi, I have an 06 kia sorento. We are losing quite a bit of coolant daily. It keeps throwing a cylinder 2 & 4 misfire daily. All plugs, wires, and coils replaced. T/stat and rad cap both replaced.

possibly out the exhaust ports
have a compression test done
have a coolant system pressure test done by a professional radiator shop to check for leaks while stationary
remember that misfires are moe probable from dirty injectors and wires than plugs and coils

My 1995 Chevy tahoe is hard to start, runs rough when you start out, has high oil PRESSURE

not enough info, what engine, fuel injected? if so what type, multi port, or throttle body? oil pressure is not the problem, it could have a Hi-Perf. oil pump. fix the leaks, they will make a horrible odor. and coolant leaks will make it run hot.

I am not a car mechanic by career, but I have built high performance engines for racing. There should be no oil leak. If you get oil on to electrical wires this is bad, because the oil can soften and damage the insulation characteristics of electrical wire, other types of surfaces, and many types of hoses. Find and correct any oil leaks, replace the wires, and make sure all other wires and hoses are clean from any oil residue or drippings.

Where you're describing sounds like it's leaking from the oil pan. If the vehicle has high mileage, you will probably want to look into replacing the oil pan gasket. If this doesn't sound right, it could be something to do with the oil pump. There isn't a lot of electrical components in that area of the engine. The oil pump or oil sensing unit would be my guess.

MY 2003 FORD EXPEDTION STARTS UP YOU DRIVE FOR AWHILE AND IT DIES SOMETIMES IT STARTS RIGHT UP SOMETIMES IT TAKES THREE OR FOUR TIMES. FINALLY IT WOULDN'T START BOUGHT AND INSTALLED A NEW FUEL PUMP STILL...

If it does not have proper voltage, what is the voltage exactly? Also hook every thing to the vehicle, like it is supposed to be,and turn key to the on position and listen,or feel for the fuel pump relay to click on,and click off.Now look for the fuel service port on the fuel rail and remove cap.Depress the valve core to see if there is fuel in the line,it should spray out pretty good,so be careful of fire, and getting it in your eyes. You may have to cut key off and on with a 5 second pause between off and on,off and on.does it have fuel in rail? And does it have good pressure? It should have a good intense spray. If it does, the fuel pressure is fine most likely, good enough for it to start and run.Now if you are certain it is the fuel pump going off,or not getting enough voltage, then look at the oil sending unit. The oil sending unit will have control over the fuel pump in cases of oil pump failure.Check to see if the oil sending unit may be leaking.Sometimes they won`t leak if they go bad,but if it is leaking it needs to be replaced anyway,You will have to unplug it to actually see if it is leaking. Some vehicles have another switch just like the oil sending unit(most of the time it is the same part number as the oil sending unit)that are just for the sake of not letting the car start, much less, run,to save the engine from burning up and ruining the engine.Am I making any sense?Have you noticed any change in oil pressure? You might not see if you don`t have a gauge. But if this helps you figure the problem out,it will be a positive. If the fuel pressure is fine, then look for the crankshaft sensor to be bad,If I can help, let me know,,,let me know how you come out.roniecon@gmail.com

2001 plymouth neon oil light keeps blinling on and off

You have an oil leak. From where is the question. On most Dodge products, the oil pressure sensor is behind the oil filter. Petroleum products are solvents, however mild. This affects gaskets, wires, hoses, you name it. Have someone check the wires on the oil pressure sensor. Also see if it is screwed in tight. Neons are buzzy little engines and tend to have minor stuff wiggle loose from time to time. There is the possibility of having a "Double Gasket" on the oil filter which would cause the oil to leak and pressure to drop at lower RPMs. If all of that checks out, then you might need a new oil pump.

This could be a number of things but i think that your problem sounds like a vacuum leak or an EGR problem. Try listening for leaks and try un-plugging the EGR solenoid valve one time.

You must use 10W30 oil in the summer. On really hot days, when you are stopped and in drive, the oil pressure will drop to almost zero (according to the dash gauge).
If this is not happening under the above conditions, you need to place a shop gauge in the oil sensor sender port and test for proper pressure. If it is low (out of spec), you need to ensure the oil sump is not plugged in the crankcase. If it's not plugged, you need to replace the oil pump and fast!

The ABS issue is probably caused by the EBCTM module on the back of the ABS modulator, loose fuse, or bad connection to the module. Affects the cruise and PS as well.
