If the heater core is not getting hot, there is a blockage in it and will have to be backflushed or replaced to repair this problem.

Does a 93 econoline passenge van typically have a rear heater.

Yes it does have a heater core. Depending on options and series the core will be on passenger side behind the dash or under hood on passenger side. Just look for your heater hoses and follow them and they will lead you right to it. If you have any trouble let me know and I'll get info you need.

1993 Ford Aerostar - Replacing heater core

Inside on the passenger side under the dash you will find a large black box. It has several screws holding the cover on. You remove the core from there. It helps to take the jockey box out first. But, the hoses to the core are outside under the hood on the passenger side. These usually have C-hook clamps on them. That means you need a special tool to get the clamps off, then the hoses slide off the rubber gromet on the core from the outside, by simply pulling on them. You can find the two hoses on the far left when you are outside on the front of the vehicle. They project from a small are on the side of the heater fan housing. Remember to save the clamps, most new cores do not come with.

Air conditioner

On my 90 Aerostar 3L, I had a similar problem, in that the front vent control, or blend door was not setup correctly and had to be adjusted. Somehow the choke type cable for temperature adjust, had slipped out of its holder at the door end, and was not allowing the blend door to close properly, and the outside air was not allowed to bypass the interior heater core, even thought the cooling core was lowering the air temp, but raising it again because it had to go through the heater core. Removing the top of the dash, and looking in from outside the windshield, and having someone operate the temp control will tell you if it's working properly, or needs adjustment. Alternately, if it's the manual control type, by quickly operating the temp control, you should here the blend door "thump" as you open and close it. There should be full travel in the control range, or if limited, the above problem applies, adjust at the blend door mechanism.
