This is a warning that the gas cap is either loose or not tightened correcly or missing, check and make sure the gas cap is installed correctly and tight, it should click twice if correctly installed, the light is the check engine light, this is on because of the gas cap issue, the computer has detected gas fumes are leaking from your vehicle, if the gas cap is ok then replace it and have the code cleared, this will turn off the check engine light..

Gascap message in mileage readout on dash. Engine light is on. What is the problem and how do I fix it. ??

The gas cap is either not on or improperly installed, remove the cap and reinstall it until it clicks when tightening. Read your owner's manual, the info is in there. If the light still stays on replace the gas cap.

I just changed the oil and filter on my LX420 twin cam how do I get the blinking light to go out. Its a 2006

  • The Service Monitor meter contains a service minder function that utilizes the 4-digit LCD display.
  • The letters "CHG" will display followed by the letters "OIL" and then followed by the meter accumulated time.
  • CHG"/"OIL"/TIME will alternate on the display for five (5) minutes after the meter reaches 50 hours.
  • While the LCD is displaying the "CHG"/"OIL"/TIME letters, the red LED "oil symbol" will also be flashing for the entire five (5) minutes.
The display will also flash as described above for five (5) minutes every time the tractor has been started during the maintenance time interval. The interval will occur every 50 hours and will be in effect for two (2) hours.( Example: this feature will display from 50-52 hrs., 100-102 hrs., 150-152 hrs etc...)
THE METER DISPLAY WILL RESET TO NORMAL AUTOMATICALLY, after the reminder maintenance time interval of two (2) hours. There is no method of manually re-setting this Service Monitor gauge.

What are the causes to look for once the engine check light comes on

something as simple as "Not Securely Fastening the GasCap" can turn on the check engine light. You have a fair amount of mileage on the vehicle (don't know what year make and model it is). Some vehicles may turn on the check engine or maintenance required light after a certain amount of mileage just to insure the systems are checked.
Your best bet is to have someone scan the fault code to determine what to do next - there are numerous issues that can turn on the Check Engine Light. A local Auto Parts Store will probably scan the codes for Free.

Gascap on mileage reading

I assume it is displaying gas cap on the odometer. This happens when the van sees a EVAP leak. It is small and is telling you to make sure the gas cap is tight. If it is you probably have a leak in the EVAP system. If it gets worse it will turn on the check engine light.

The word "gascap" is displayed in the odometer. I

The most likely reason your display is reading gas cap is that you have an unsolved evaporation code. Most of the time simply replacing the gas cap will fix the problem, but since you have already done that there is a whole list of other things you could check. I would start with your hose that runs to your tank from your fill spout. It is possible that it has a small crack in it. Or it is even possible that one of your injector O rings has gotten bad. The bottom line is that evaporation codes are very hard to pin point and usually do not cause any problems at all. So if you decide to do nothing and not spend any money on the problem you will probably be just as well off. Well that is other then being annoyed by your gas cap light. I hope this helps you out, and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

My service engine soon light came on checked the code it said something about the evap system ?

There are a couple of different issues on this.

First off, the actual cel (check engine light) code would be extremely helpful it will be Pxxxx

Other than that, a general troubleshooting guide would be to check your gascap.
Remove the gascap, check for cracks in the rubber seal
Check for dents etc on the gas filler neck which would prevent a good seal
Reinstall the gascap ensuring it clicks a minimum of 3 clicks
If this is your problem, your code should go away in a few days. If you find problems with the gascap or filler neck, etc. then go ahead and repair them. This is the most common cause of evap issues.

The other issue i have seen with the evap system on a '01 blazer is the pressure sensor on the fuel pump going bad. Good news is that this part is roughly $40 dollars. Bad news is you may have to drop the fuel tank to get to it since it's mounted on the fuel pump most of the time, and the fuel pump is on the top middle(ish) of the fuel tank. I don't recommend dropping the fuel tank full. It'll weigh a lot. (28 gal x 6.1 lbs) + tank ~75 lbs.

Wrench light is on and odometer shows negative mileage

The negative number means the car should have had it's oil changed that many miles ago. Oil life starts at 100% for new oil & counts down every 10%. At 15% the display will always show, which means it's near time to change the oil.

usersteve83, your oil may have been changed but the timer not reset. Reset the timer as shown...
1. Turn ignition to the "ON" position. (do not start engine)
2. Press SEL/RESET repeatedly until the oil life indicator is displayed.
3. Press & hold the SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds until it blinks then let go of the button.
4. Press the SEL/RESET again for about 5 seconds or until the oil life indicator resets to 100%.

Wrench = Maintenance Minder: Symbol letter & number...
Symbol A - Relace engine oil.
Symbol B - Replace engine oil & filter, Inspect front & rear brakes, Check parking brake adjustment, Visually inpest the tie rods, suspension components, driveshaft boots, brake hoses & line (including ABS), all fluid levels & their conditions, exhaust system, fuel lines & connections.
Symbol 1 - Rotate tires.
Symbol 2 - Replace air cleaner element (dusty conditions every 15K miles) & replace dust & pollen filter (behind glovebox) every 15K miles if mainly dusty or city driving.
Symbol 3 - Replace transmission fluid.
Symbol 4 - Replace spark plugs.
Symbol 5 - Replace engine coolant.

All above are taken from the 2006 Civic EX owner's manual.
