Question about 1993 Acura Legend

I drive a 1993 Acura Ledgend my tempature gage sits below the C when I start it up in the mornings and remain there while i am driving down the road. then 5 minutes later it spikes up to hot. it has done this twice. What could be the issue here? H E L P....

I dont have the solution yet but im having the same prob with my 98 acura rl motor will run hot as my heater starts to blow cold and over heat but only somtimes , i replaced the thermostat, all fans come on but i could have a clogged radiator or so im told , will try to post if i know something if now i hope someone can tell me something

Actually not as strange as it would appear and unless the gauge stays on hot you really may not have a problem at all. When you first start a cold engine the reading below C is normal and the thermostat is closed preventing water circulation from the engine to the radiator in order to allow the engine to heat up to operating temperature and also help the heater to warm up quicker as it operates off of the engine coolant heat as well. Thermostats come in a variety of specified temperatures that determines when they open and when they close. As the engine heats up and gets to the opening temperature you will often see a spike in the temperature guage if the hottest coolant is in the area of the temperature sensor/sending unit at the time. Then the thermostat opens and the hot coolant from the engine mixes with cooler coolant from the radiator and everything settles back to normal. In a lot of cases this goes on all the time and drivers just don't happen to catch the spike as it returns to normal relatively quickly, and of course after they see it once they start watching and catch it again. If the temperature only spikes and then returns to normal range and only happens when you are warming up a cold engine then you have nothing to be concerned about. Should the temp stay high or the spikes begin to last longer and longer then we should start looking at overheating causes such as a sticking thermostat, but until then, happy driving.

Sounds like the sending unit is bad, can't exactly tell you where its located, don't have my manual at the moment.

the tempature sensor controls when fans come on , are fans running at time in park ? or do they shut off or not come on at all check coolant supply .

What do i check for if the car want start after it sits for a few hours

Take your mass air flow sensor off and clean the small thin wires inside with a non-chlronated brake cleaner then let it dry for 10 minutes then re-install.

I have a 1993 Acura Ledgend. For some reason my heater does not continue to blow hot air, it does for a few minutes and then begain to blow cold air. It does this often now. It works and then it blows cold...

first check to see that you coolant level is full, check it after the engine has cooled down,so there is no pressure in the system. otherwise you possibly have a head gasket in the early stage of failure

Check the distributor coil, cap, rotor etc. Check for cracks on all of them.

No Heat in 99 Taurus

Just finished fixing my daughters 1999 taurus heat. It would blow warm only when running down the road. At idle it blew cold. I started with replacing thermostat, and water pump because they are the easier fix. Still did not help. Then I replaced the heater core. A daunting job but not that hard to move the dash slighly out of the way to replace. There is a good write up at After that, heat was better but at idle, it would still blow cool sometimes. Researched and found answer. Park car on the steepest hill you can find with front of car up. Start car and take off reservoir cap. Let car warm up and keep rpms about 1500. After a while the fluid will come running out of the car and all over the place but it will bring air bubbles with it. Reduce rpm, add more fluid and repeat about 3 times. It will make a mess but after that, the heater works perfectly. We get heat long before the temp gage indicates any and it never blows cold unless you lower the temp.

these vehicles overheat real fast when u noticed the water pump leak yu should have replaced it now i think that you have over heated the head and the heads have to be removed , check for cracks and most probably you will end up doing a valve job and replacement of the head gasket, water pump and the timing belt. sorry not very cheap at all
