The transmission slipped at a red light. Let off the gas then it engaged. Shifted smooth except for a little hesitation in 2nd and third.

No leaks of any kind. Checked the fluid and it is full.
I have noticed there is a slight slip when I would apply full pressure to the trottle at times before this failure. Never had any problem down shifting only upshifting. This was the first time the trans axle spun and did not engage. After that it has operated smooth so far???. Maybe 20 miles..

First check your fluid level, that's the most common cause. Also check for any burnt coloring or anything other than fluid on the stick. Also check your service records to make sure the fluid and filter have been changed according to specs, you may need to have it serviced. If all the above fails, then you have a more serious internal problem, but by your description it seems this has been happening long or constantly reoccurring so most likely you are ok.

Park the vehicle on a level surface. Check the transmission fluid level according to the instructions in your owner's manual. Caution: Do not overfill. The low mark is normally just a pint or in some cases 1/2 pint and is not a quart. If the fluid is not low then seek professional help. Do not ignore this. At least have the fluid and filter changed.

Have the dealer verify the trans fluid level, there is no dip stick so it takes a special deal;er tool to do this plus a scanner to verify the trans is at a minimum of 185 degrees F. If the fluid level is ok have a trouble code test run to see if any of the shift solenoid is failing, also if the trans fluid and filter hasn't been changed every 60,000 miles do the service/

What causes 1996 Dodge Neon SOHC automatic transmission to delay or slip shifts?

that is a hum dinger, largest ever posted, in one shot.
very good.!
one word , the transmission slips. (never drive a slipping tranny)
overheat indicator.! that is key.
many newer cars will change the transmission shifting any time
the engine over heats.
and overheat wins over transmission , every time.
if the engine burns up, what good is any transmission.? nada.

solve overheat first.

slip or flare.
is when the engine RPM rises fast and the car dont go faster.
SLIPS.
and slipping burns up trannyclutchs and increases the damage. inside the transmission, dont do that. dont allow it,
park it and fix it.

on some tranny there is a temperature sensor that the TCM
watches and changes shift patterns based on AFT fluid temps.
and if the ATF fluid gets too hot , it takes actions. to keep the tranny from harm.

why not get a scan too and see what DTC errors there are..
DTC, engine overheate.
DTC< tranny overheat (caused by above)

You can get the transmission rebuilt. Look for a local transmission repair shop. It's much cheaper that way.

1990 toyota camry wont go into gear or slips out

Could be a long list of things.
Its too late for a filter change. Doing that now would probably make matters worse.
The trans uses electric solenoids and a pump to apply pressure to the clutches. So either could be faulty given the age and mileage.
I'm not sure if the shifting problem is connected to the shift indicator lights problem.
You may need to take it to a trans shop to find out for sure. And they will not want to touch it with that many miles on it.
A regular mechanic might be able to do a pressure test on it to at least find out if it is the pump or not.

Clutch starting to slip 1994 camaro can i adjust it

It does sound like your clutch needs replacing. Adjusting the clutch may help but will not solve the problem. If the transmission has not been serviced for a long time it is a good idea to replace the transmission fluid, inspect the pressure plate. They may also start to wear.

Why does the car **** when giving gas?

There can be two reasons and the CLUTCH wear off is a possibility. If the clutch facing is worn out then it will not be aligned properly and so will slip off when the transmission is engaged which can result in the ****.
Secondly the poor fuel setting can have the engine starving for fuel to deliver the required power and so it will hunt resulting in a jerking.
However if the fault is seen even when the gears are shifted in higer RPM then the clutch assembly could be worn out, with a possible fault also on the flywheel.

Low transmission fluid is usually the only reason power engages late or slippage occurs. But changing the transmission fluid again would not hurt. The stuff really shouldn't deteriorate like engine oil. Be sure to not run the vehicle many miles until the problem is completely resolved < 100 miles. One easy check would be to make sure the transmission lines are well connected and maintain pressure as well as fluid level. The good thing is that Toyota has a reputation of very good transmissions.
