Try looking at the lower radiator hose. It should end up somewhere on the block. In any normal car, that is where thethermostat housing is located. my guess is there are two bolts on either side of the T.H., and a red, blue, or black ring that runs along the base, which is a silicone gasket. remove the bolts and pry the housing from the block (be careful). thethermostat should be seated inside the housing. when you install it make sure its pointed in the right direction.

Slightly more precise answer....

The thermostat housing is on top of the engine at the transmission end. The thing you're looking for is silver and has one radiator hose, two sensors and a bolt with a hole in the middle of it (the bleeder bolt) sticking out of it. The left end of this assembly is held in with two bolts, like the first responder said. Use a 12mm wrench to loosen the bleeder bolt, then use a 10mm socket to remove the two retaining bolts. Pull the assembly (we'll call it a cup) away and you'll find thethermostat in the piece that's in your hand. Look at how the thermostat's sitting in the cup, then remove it.

Put the gasket on your new thermostat, and set it in the cup the way the old one was in there. There's a pin on one side of the thermostat, and it should be at the top. Put the cup back in its mount, thread in the bolts and tighten them to 9 lb-ft, or 108 in-lb if you've got a 1/4" drive torque wrench.

Now remove the radiator cap and pour some coolant in there. Use either "all makes all models" coolant or HondaGenuine coolant--nothing else. When coolant comes out of the bleeder bolt, tighten it and replace the radiator cap.

I have a 90 Honda Prelude si and steam is coming from the over flow tank, but its not showing hot on the gauge.

Sounds like you are having a thermostat problem. It sounds like it is sticking at times and you may also have a bad temp. sensor. At times, if the thermostat sticks in the closed position, the sensor in the outlet side of the t-stat housing will not read the proper engine temp..Next time it gives you problems, lift the hood and carefully check the temp. of both of the water hoses to the radiator. If the top hose feels hot and the lower hose is only warm, then the t-stat. is stuck in the closed position and needs to be replaced.

Whereis the thermostat on the engine

depending on the motor size,,,look on passenger side of engine. towards the firewall, down low where the radiator hose goes into the motor.just like a honda prelude.follow that hose on passenger side of motor from radiator to the connection on the motor. that's where you'll find the thermostat. on engine side of hose. hard to get to but can do. usually 12mm bolts,,,2 of them one on the top of housing and one on the bottom. thank you for choosing fixya.com

Where is the thermostat located on a 1991 honda prelude

its located on the upper radiator hose. You could see a joint in which the hose is attach. remove the 2 bolts and make sure after replacing it to seal it properly before bolting it back.

Bottom radiator hose cold. upper radiator bulging.

The fan won't come on because the thermoswitch is in the bottom of the radiator, without coolant flow the switch never gets hot. Just because a part is new doesn't mean it is good, is the thermostat an aftermarket part ? I would take out the thermostat (leave the gasket) and see if the bottom hose gets warm. If the bottom hose does not get warm, you may have a blockage or bad water pump

1986 honda prelude heater

Radiator flushes can cause more problems than fix sometimes. Before you go removing the dash first replace the thermostat if you follow the lower radiator hose to the engine this is the thermostat housing.Remove the three 10mm bolts and the housing should come apart. Make sure you put the thermostat in the right way and not upside down. The larger end with the spring goes in first toward the engine and the little vent should be on top. When you fill it back up with a 60/40 mixture of coolant make sure you open the bleed hole on the thermostat housing to get out any air and tighten when coolant comes out with no air bubbles. Start the car and hopefully the heat is better. If not the heater core is the two coolant hoses on the firewall remove both hoses and check the flow with a water hose put the hose to both sides to get out any debris. If the flow is slow and does not improve you will have to pull out the heater core which means removing most of the lower dash pulling out the evaporator if you have A/C. Make sure you get a manual. Hope this helps.

Car Running Hot

Hi, are you sure u need a new thermostat? Running in the mid temp range is ok. If u think u need to change it, here's the info. I believe your Prelude uses a 195 degree thermostat, but go to a good parts store and give them the year make, and model and ask them what thermo. u need. Also get a gasket. The thermostat is located at the end of the radiator hose (the top hose). Disconnect the house at the 'housing' and remove the housing (2 bolts), the thermostat is now exposed. Pop it out (u might need to persuade it w/ a screwdriver (gently pry it out) and remove the gasket, clean gasket surface. Install gasket and thermostat, being careful that they stay in position when u bolt the housing back in place. Re-attach radiator hose, top off coolant, (50/50 Mix), and last, there is a bleeder valve which I believe is on the housing that u loosen after starting the car, when air stops coming out, tighten and u r good to go. Do u have any idea when the coolant was last changed? U might want to consider it if it's been a long time, or u r not sure. Let me know how u make out, or if u have any questions. Good luck! countrycurt0
