Question about 1997 Volvo 850

I have a 97 volvo 850 the brake lights stopped working, bulbs are fine and so are fuses

Try to see if the brake switch on the brake pedal is loose or broken. it's located on the brake pedal swing arm on the back side and under the dash. You may have to pull the knee plate to get to it. They are not hard to replace and are not to expensive.

I have a 1996 Volvo 850 Wagon. I discovered today that none of the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed, (even fully). All 3 brake light bulbs are OK, no error message on the dash, and...


disconnect the wires from the brake pedal switch, put an ohm meter across the connectors and move the plunger in and out. if there is a short one way and an open the other way, the switch is good. if there is no change in resistance, based on the plunger position, then the switch is bad.

Brake lights won't work fuses of bulbs ok


Brake light switch, think it should be under the brake pedal. when brakes are applied, the pedal compresses the switch, which makes the brake lights come on.

Replace your brake light switch,also just replace the brake light fuse,sometimes they can have an very small crack in it,they you cant see.

Usually there is a switch with the gear lever that actuates (turns on) the backup lights that is either broke or loose.
