Check the transmission fluid, often times when the transmission fluid runs low the transmission will not engage into drive or reverse. Check the fluid with the engine running.

The newer automatic transmissions have electrical solenoids that engage the hydraulics inside the transmision and in order to diagnose this issue the transmission's Electronic Computer Control Module's trouble codes must be retreived. This is a special code reader that only the dealer or a qualified transmission repair shop posseses, the diagnostic costs about $100.00 but most shops deduct that charge off the total repair if you choose to have them do the work. I would be guessing if I told you to change out the primary solenoid, jack the vehicle up and inspect the wires and electrical connections going to the transmission, also be sure that one of the cvu joints is not broke I have seen cars with broken cvu joints do nothing when the vehicle is put in gear the axle just spins. Apply the parking brake or have an assistant apply the brake and put it in gear the observe the axles to see if one is spinning with out the wheel spinning if this is occuring the cvu joint is bad.

Does it go into the correct gear if you downshift to 2nd or 1st(shift cable misadjusted)? Could the DTC switch be bad on the side of the tranny? May have to ask Ford to look at it.
I suppose it could be an electrical short at the column,or is it a floor shifter? don-ohio (:^)

My Escape 2001 V-6 Transmission Problem. i put into reverse nothing happens when i put it into drive nothing happens was working fine 5 days ago. Please any idea or tip how to fixed? or is like a sensor...

I got a new transmission and in a few months it did the same thing. On mine the transmission cable was not connected. If you know where the cable is....it only takes a couple seconds to plug it back in. When my transmission went completely out it would not go no matter what gear it was in , but when it become disconnected it would not go into any gear. The gear shift would not move.
Hope this helps!

2003 Ford Escape Shift Problems. Only P works.

Nothing to do with your alternator my friend, you did nothing to cause this situation. Block the tires and put the emergency brake on, slide under to view the shift linkage on the trans, have someone shift ti for you, if the linkage does not move, you have a broken or disconnected shift cable that needs attention.
