Engine turns over but wont start , think we have eletrical fault to fuel pump.

I can't look up wiring diagram w/o year--make--model? Usually if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs, where applicable. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse.

My automotive database is a US database, it won't have vehicles sold only in other countries.

First, you need to understand that the starting system on that vehicle is DESIGNED to keep cranking the engine (even after you let go of the key). It will crank for approximately 15 seconds, then time out if the engine speed has not reached 700 RPM. Personally, I think this can be a serious safety hazzard, especially for someone working on the vehicle, but this is not the time or place to get into that.

To find out why it is not starting, you must first determine what is missing. The engine needs fuel, spark, and compression to start. One or more of these things are missing.

For the fuel. you not only need fuel in the fuel tank, but you must also have the correct fuel pressure (per manufacturer's specifications) and injector pulse (or injector control) - not to mention that the injectors themselves must be capable of functioning correctly when the control system tells them to.

For the spark, you need not only functioning coils, but the spark plugs must not be worn out and they cannot be "flooded" with gas or any other foreign substance like oil or antifreeze. Spark plug cables (or coil boots for COP ignition) must not be defective.

Compression is pretty much a mechanical problem. However, it can be an electronic problem if your vehicle is equipped with variable cam timing. (You didn't mention which engine your Caravan is equipped with, which would be a good idea if you would like someone to help you figure out your engine problem)

Now since fuel, spark, and compression can be controlled by the engine control computer in modern vehicle configurations, and the computer system is capable of self-diagnosis of these systems, it would be wise to BEGIN diagnosis by consulting with the onboard computer network that controls these things (AKA, scan your system for fault codes).

I have a 4.3 engine wont start in morning unless i pour gas in throtle body wont give a shot of gas when i turn on key but will start all day after first start in morning

without knowing the year, make, model, and mileage it sounds like you have a partially blocked fuel filter. the problem occurs after the vehicle sits for long periods of time such as overnight. the trash in the filter has time to settle and block the fuel line so the engine doesn't get the fuel it needs to start. by pouring gas into the engine you are allowing the engine to start and pressurize the fuel system and force the blockage out of the way enough to allow fuel to the engine, as long as you start it up every so often the the trash in the filter cant settle enough to restrict fuel flow. this will be a very good place to start looking for a fuel flow issue.

My chevy C3500 4x2 diesel crew cab is turning over but wont start i checked all the fuses do u think it may be at fuel pump r a line stopped up or a senser

You need air, fuel, and spark to start your vehicle. It may be the fuel pump, filter, fuel pump fuse/relay. You should be able to hear the fuel pump kick on when you first turn your key. Fuel goes to the pump, filter, lines, and engine. If it is getting gas, you need to check for spark. Spark plugs/coil wires, distributor, dist.cap, cam sensor, ect. It can be anyone of them. Check for gas and spark.

Cranks but wont start ,sputters but wont start has fuel in tank, it is a 1999 cougar V-6

Hi!!It sounds like your fuel pump is not working. Check fuel pump relay on engine compartment fuse box have somebody to turn the ignition key to the RUN position, DO NOT CRANK ENGINE (feel if the relay clicks when the key is turned, it will only be energized for a couple of seconds and then you should feel when it gets de-energized. if relay is OK, remove the fuel tank gas cap and repeat the same key operation, listen to the fuel pump coming in, again this will be running only for a couple of seconds, try a few times until you are sure one way or the other. If fuel pump works, then replace fuel filter and try to start vehicle. If vehicle does not start. You need to check fuel pump pressure. borrow a tester form Autozone or similar auto parts store. The fuel pressure should be between 30-40 psi with key ON engine OFF. If pressure is off either way, replace fuel pump. Here is how to hook up the fuel pressure tester 1kbron_71.jpg
Good Luck! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Turn key to start-engine turns and i have spark wont start

I would check fuel pressure so you can rule out pump. I had a bad pump right out of the box before. Also you may want to change fuel filter so you can rule out plugged filter. You have spark, sure seems like still no fuel.

Take the vehicle to any place that services emmisions on vehicle ar go to the dealer and the codes checked from your computer. If nothing is found (code wise) get a full tune up. You may have a clogged fuel filter or may even got bad fuel at any gas station

My volkwaon Jetta wont start. I think the fuel

It is in the fuel tank and normally you can check the pump by either listening for it to pressurize just as you turn the key or have a pressure test done which requires a pressure tester and you have to find out what the required PSI is for that vehicle. Good Luck

If the car fired after pouring gas into the engine, then you should check your fuel pump, listen when you turn on the key, if you hear the fuel pump start and stop, then check your fuel pressure, all fuel injected vehicles have fuel pressure regulators, if your fuel pump isnt pushing enough pressure to the regulator the car will not start, and if it does start it wont operate properly, and may even leave you stranded.. If your fuel pressure is low, check the fuel filter, dirty filters restrict pressure, and are ALOT cheeper to replace than a fuel pump!
