Ok raise the car and support the car by the BODY PINCH WELDS BEHIND THE FRONT WHEELS
remove the wheel
remove the DRIVE AXLE NUT 1 5/16 i think
remove the ball joint nut 18mm
seperate the ball joint from the steering knuckle
grab the brake caliper and pull to remove the drive axle from the hub bearing i always remove the brake flex line bracket bolt less chance of damaging the brake line
once the drive axle is out of the bearing use a pry bar and pop the other end of the shaft out of the transmission(give the pry bar a quick snap and it should pop right out
that's it remove the old shaft and install the new one and reassemble
hope this helps

SOURCE: cv half axles

Hey tconley3
I have done the front CV half axles in my '96 WRX and did not require a special tool, mine was an Auto, but I suspect a manual car is similar. Firstly, while the car is on the ground, unlock the lock tab and loosen the main hub nut - it can be very tight. Then lift the car up off its wheels and use stands to make sure it is safe and won't fall on you - I have a hoist which is really nice. Take off the wheel, brake caliper (I hang this by a piece of wire from the spring, saves disconnecting and bleeding the brakes) and take off the disc. Take off the main hub nut. Then release the two strut to hub carrier bolts and then knock them out. Note that they are slightly different - put them back the way they came out. The hub will now hang down on the bottom ball joint. At this stage you should be able to push the drive shaft back out of the hub assembly. This is not easy, but I managed to do mine. If this cannot be done then I guess you would need to take the hub off completely by releasing the bottom ball joint. You now have the drive shaft hanging down from the gearbox. The shaft is on a spline. Inside the gearbox on the end of the spline is a radial groove on which sits a wire ring. I assume this is to stop the shaft falling out. As you pull the shaft out, this wire ring comes up against a taper in the gearbox which is supposed to compress the wire ring into the groove and allow the axle to come out. Sometimes this does not happen easily and you will need to **** it out. If it wont come out because the spline or the wire ring is damaged you have a major, major problem which I can't help you with - Gearbox disassembly I suspect. Anyway, that should have the shaft sitting on the floor. The axle shaft pulls out of the CV the same way (spline, wire ring thing). Assembly is easy, but in the reverse order. Use the factory torque settings for all the main nuts/bolts. A few things: get the wheel alignment done after the job. If you cannot get the disc caliper back on the disc, use a "G" clamp and gently push the caliper pistons back into the caliper a bit which will allow you more room between the disc and pistons. If you do this, you will need to gently pump the brake pedal a couple of times to restore the pedal, it will go straight to the floor on the first application - don't find this out on the way out of the shop!!!! Be prepared to loose some skin and get very dirty. If possible, when you have finished, get someone else to check all the bolts for tightness, leaving some of these loose could cause a serious accident.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Keith

SOURCE: 94 Geo Prizm CV or driveaxle?

on this type of vehichle, you have two axles in the front; one going to each side. Chances are that the boot at the axle joint was torn and that is why you are having problem. In teh past people used to replace the boot, this day and age its actually cheaper to replace the axle. So you would need to replace that side of the axle (the half shaft).

SOURCE: how often to replace cv boots/cv joints/axle?

If something off the road tore the boot, yes but if it has not been tore long and you don't hear any clicking noises around corners, you can just replace the boot.

SOURCE: need help removing right side cv axle on 94 toyota

Assuming you have the spindle off - you need a pry bar between the inner mount and the transaxle. Give it a bit of a snap as it is held in with a lock ring around the spline. Note the gap - when replacing it - pop it in fairly well till you feel the snap ring lock back into position. If you are replacing it - inspect the new one - the lock ring should already be installed.

You should be able to get a universal CV boot. Obviously, you would have to check the dimensions before buying it.

Have a look on Ebay. A supplier of CV boots should be able to sort one out for you.

CV axle needs replaced, need procedure instructions and tool list.

If it is the first time they have been changed , you will need to either grind, drill or air chisel the rivets off from around the cv mount. New ones come with bolts so they are easily replaced.

Hyundai 2005 Elantra cv boot replacement instructions.

There are no instructions available except with the purchase of SOME boot kits. Depending on the CV joint design, you may not be able to remove the joint from the axle. However, most Hyundai CV joints can be removed from the axle by using a drift and a 2 pound hammer to knock the joint off the axle. Once you've done this, it's a simple matter of removing the old boot and installing the new one w/fresh grease and tension bands. Otherwise, you have to remove the DOJ from the other end of the axle and replace the boot that way.

How do i change the drivers side transaxle in a 1994 dodge carava

To change the CV axle, you have to remove the lower ball joint, remove the axle nut, remove from hub, (you can pull the strut out far enough to do this), and the axle will pull out. Install in reverse order. Sounds like you were trying to remove the transmission.

CV Joint Axle Replacement

It's not an easy job, and a very messy one! If you have never done CV's before, I suggest you take it to a CV specialist, as they will do it quickly and cheaply in comparison to the hardship you will have to go through doing it yourself. These vehicles are common for the axles rusting into the hubs and siezing in there, and often the whole hub needs to be removed and the axle heated and pressed out. The new CV's often don't come with a tone wheel for the ABS system and you may need to swap the old tone wheel onto the new CV joint, and measure the alignment of it with the sensor when refitting.
