Question about Pontiac GTO

1 Answer

I have a 69 GTO that had an aftermarket steering wheel. I'm putting a stock steering wheel back on (the one with three horn buttons on the spokes). The part with the horn buttons has a wire on it, and I can't figure out what to attach the wire to. Any help?

Just to make sure I understand the problem? You can't find the wire that goes to the horn to connect the steering wheel to? You will need to locate this wire or consider running a new one. That is what the wire is for. You may want to consider having a mechanic do this as it should only take them couple minutes and you can be assured it will be done right. If you need any further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

How do i remove the steering wheel on a 1989 mazda b2200

Hi
  • 1st thing you want to do is position the steering wheel straight, easier when you put one back on. If it's never been removed before you might need the help of a puller
  • 2nd is to disable the horn. Easiest way to do that is by just removing the negative cable from your battery.
  • 3rd is to remove center wheel cover on the three spoke steering wheel you can just simply peel the cover off. On two spoke steering wheels (which is stock), you'll need to remove three or four screws on the back side of the steering wheel. Then pull on the front cover, unplug the horn wire from the connecter, and set the center section aside.
  • 4th is to loosen steering wheel retaining nut. With a 21mm or 13/16ths socket and maybe a breaker bar, you'll want to loosen the retaining nut that is holding the steering wheel on the column. Back it off until it is approximately flush with the end of the bolt. Leaving the nut on the end of the bolt will prevent steering wheel from hitting you in the face when and if you try to use your own strength to pull it off.
  • 5th is pull the steering wheel. Try and give a firm tug on the steering wheel while wiggling it right to left to pull it off the column.
As said above, if the steering wheel has never been removed before, it's probably going to require a gear puller or steering wheel puller. You can acquire one of these at your local auto parts store. Good luck

How do i remove a steering wheel on a 2004 nissan terrano2

Are you trying to replace the wheel with a fancy aftermarket one, or is your one damaged?
If this vehicle has the SRS steering wheel bag, and you do not know what you are doing, I would not try this at home.
if you feel that you need to, check YouTube videos and have a good look at the explosion that will occur if you stuff up.
A non SRS bag steering, start at the rear of the wheel and undo the two screws recessed into the steering wheel spokes that hold the centre boss on. After that it should be self explanatory, after undoing the big nut you may have to jiggle the wheel quite hard to unseat the boss off the splines. Try to have your wheels in the straight ahead position so that you don't end up with the spokes at a funny angle when you put the replacement wheel back on.

Where is the horn relay switch on a 1990 Cavalier? Or, can i directly wire the horn & horn button without it? Aftermarket steering wheel and the horn was gone when i got the car.

The relay should be on the firewall or the fender under the hood.
The horn pad on the steering wheel provides a ground to that relay. The relay provides power to the horn. So you can not wire it direct.

What exactly does it mean tha tthe horn operation is ground through the horn switch button on the steering wheel? My horn only works if I am turning the wheel - otherwise it doesn't work at all. Also,...

look on the back of the steering wheel for small screws holding the horn switch onto the side of the steering wheel you look at. generally there will be two screws and then a couple of snaps, pull it off and pull off the connectors for the horns switch. you will not be able to find a new one, and a used one will be as old as that one. So get a push button switch at a hardware store and wire it to the connectors and then screw mount it onto a spoke in the steering wheel and you should be good to go.

Horn honked randomly but is now constant. I have disconnected both wire connections at the 2 horns. Since as soon as one is connected, the horn sounds. How do I properly identity the voltage horn wire...

If you take the steering wheel off you'll see the ground wire that grounds the constantly connected horn. Note the color of the insulation.

You could also reroute the wire from under the hood starting at the horns and simply connecting a switch that grounds the horn out to operate it with an outside switch, that is outside of the steering wheel.

I have a 69 camaro the problem is the horn does

On most early U.S. cars the horn button only provides a ground for the horn relay , which is located on the firewall under the master cylinder , if you can gain access to the back side of the horn button I would ground the wire to see if your horn honks . If not check for power at the horn relay . I would invest in an assembly manual/ service manual from any of the many camaro restoration companies as it could provide insight on future problems

Reconnecting horn on 1995 Civic CX

They cut them more than likely. but it should have 2 wires One to a ground and the other to the relay with the horn button being the awitch. Look to see if they were tucked up under the dash. Look for a grn, blk,or yellow loose wire or group together.
