Question about 1992 Hyundai Excel

Auto transmission jumping from low to high and back

My son has a 1992 Hyundai Excel Automatic and he says it is jumping from low gear to high gear and back again as he is driving along. I thought that it might be as simple as he has not checked the auto transmission fluid. Is this the case or is there something more nasty? I dont think he can find the transmission dipstick either and I have no idea on how he should fill it Any help appreciated.

My Hyundai ecel starts and revs but the automatic gears wont work car wont move

Check your fluid and level. If the fluid is dark and/or smells burnt the transmission is done for. If it has never been serviced it could be done for or the filter is plugged.

My question is about my 1992 subaru SVX automatic transmission. The Reverse, 1st,2nd and 3rd works, but nothing happens in D. We were a little low due to leaking hoses but no other signs of failure. Any...

try driving and shifting each gear manually, by hand until u reach "D". Also try some "trans X" sold at autozone& Advanced auto parts. try to run RPMs as high as possible before shifting.

Consult your car's manual on how to check your transmission fluid. If it is too low or high, it can cause some shifting problems and even cause some serious and expensive damage. If your fluid is ok or are not sure about it, go to a local car store like Auto Zone or NAPA and have them check your fluid and run a diagnostic computer on your car. Your car may tell you what is wrong.

Check the fluid level first, either too low a level or too high a level can cause erratic shifting and also if the oil smells as if its burnt there could be internal damage to clutches and brake bands. The fluid would be the first thing to chech anyway with the car driven and warmed up first and then check the oil level in neutral while car is idling.

Hyundai excel 1996 automatic will engage reverse and park but no forward gears. Gearbox was overhauled 3 years ago, new seals etc. Oil level in the main transmission is ok and no apparent leaks. Problem...

It appears you have a Forward Clutch FAILURE. Replace the trans after you get it diagnosed and verified by a professional technician. By the way, do you have a Check Engine light? If so, what is the diagnostic code? The dealership can scan the system and find any codes which may have been stored in the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If there were any 'Incorrect Gear Ratio" codes, it's most probably the trans itself.
