Question about Volvo 850

1 Answer

A buzzing/humming sound is coming from just behind the passenger headlight when starting the car and continues. Have noticed battery is a little sluggish. Could this be starter solenoid related?

I have a 2005 ford f 150, When there is no key in the ignition there is a steady clicking/ticking sound coming from behind the passenger seat. The headlights are dim. An I cannot shift out of park

Well not sure about the ticking or dim headlights. but if you start you engine and pull the positive wire off the battery. If it keep running thats a good thing. if the motor stalls then your alternator is not working. Try to check the fuses. some thing like this is always overlooked and many times is the problem. Next to the shift on top or the side there is usually a little button you pop out and you can put a small screw driver in the hole, this is an emergency release. The car usually has this safety feature so your can won`t get stolen without the key..Also try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes can reset the system and correct some small issues.

Modus headlight stays on

Buzzing sound in a box besides the battery comes from a headlight relay that is malfunctionning, or getting weak power when not supposed to, maybe due to corrosion or dirt in the fuse box. You can try to exchange the left and right headlight relays for one another, if problem switches to the driver side, relay is bad, just change it. If it is still on passenger side, then the relays are good and you will need to check for corrosion and dirt or stripped/frayed wired in the fuse box itself. This may require you to take the box apart which can be a pretty hard job, so if you don't feel safe doing this, ask a professional to it. And if you do try this yourself, please remember to unplug the battery before working on the fuse block so you don't short anything out or cause damage to the electronics.

'03 Navigator will not start.

Sound Like Transmission Position Sensor ... a sensor determines when you are in Park when stopped...if not, wont start...

Other solution could be Fuse Relay...do you hear buzzing sound coming from fuse box. If so, feel which one is failing and replace. $6 at Autozone....

My 2003 ford expedition wont start all the lights and gauges turn on and a buzzing noise is coming from the fuse box

Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuits ? Using a volt meter an wiring diagram to locate problems ?
Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year ,make , model and engine size . Under system click on engine , under subsystem click starting . Click the search button then the blue link . The buzzing sound you hear may be the starter relay , do you know what a relay is ? Behind the right side kick panel , this is where the front passengers right foot would be next to . Pull the plastic cover and behind is the central junction box. You can check for B+ voltage where the relay plugs in .

While sitting in park, turn on your head lights, pull towards you/down on the top off the steering wheel, is there a buzzing sound that starts, from headlight switch area ? My 95 had same problem on the blinking of dash lights, then the headlights starting acting up.I replaced the clockspring behind the airbag area , thats what experts told me what it was, they were wrong, it ended up being a loose ground wire that grounds(connects) the wiring harness to the body to the right of gas pedal, just behind the counsal.

flicking paring lights and buzzing in steering col. is caused by the multifunction switch.(directional stick)its caused by too much grease in switch and overtime grease travels inside the connects and shorts it out.that buzzin sound you here is actualy your parking lights coming on and off so fast it sounds like buzzin.there is a solution online that u take off the steering colum cover underneath and where the little holes are on the multifunction switch you blow contact cleaner and compressed air and it seems to get or at least push the grease outa the connectors.it seems to be a good solution but problems may return after awhiles.only other solution is to replace the whole switch.
as far as the blower motor changing speeds by itself, sometimes shutting off is caused by the blower control module located under passenger dash.if theres other issues with your cars electronics i would have the body control module tested as well.thats located under the drivers side dash.
the traction control light coming on and off is more than likely related to a bad sensor on 1 of your wheel hubs.theres 1 sensor for each tire and they are know to go bad on all gm cars giving traction control issues.on aruoras they r connected to the hub as 1 unit so u have to replace the whole assembly (cant just replace sensor)
