Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

I have a 1997 ram 1500 5.9L and the problem is that the truck starts right up and will run for 2-50 mile before I hear a ticking noise then the engine stops. I wait a few min and I can start it right back up and run for another 2-50 miles

Sounds like you either have a bad relay or faulty knock sensor. You can test any of them with an ohmmeter.

It would sound like that yes. But valve tap noise is extremely common. Many cars do this. They can also run forever with it like this as well. Good o'l lucas oil or STP oil treatment should help a bit.

More like EGR. Knock sensor would have no effect.

ticking noise sounds like a small exhaust leak. Get under car and run your hand near where you hear it. That could be because of the recent exhaust work. A small leak sounds just like a tick in the engine

Theres a knocking /ticking sound on right side of 04 ram 1500

If you have not been too good about doing oil changes clogged lifters is very possible. There are many products to flush your oil, but what I prefer is to change your oil and filter , put in 1 quart of marvel mystery oil in place of one qt of oil, run for about 100 miles then change oil and filter again

Starter solenoid or just a starter bad, sometimes this comes out of nowhere but usually you can hear it start cranking slow shortly before failure.

1997 dodage grand caravan sport, when shifting from park to drive it makes a ticking noise, do you know what this could be? the car shifts fine and runs fine 126,000 miles.

The electronic shift solenoids in those transmissions make a ticking noise when shifting, same as when you slow down and stop, you will hear it as well, if it's quiet and your window is down. My guess is what your hearing is normal but if worried, stop at any reputable mechanic shop, or dealer and they will confirm it, free of charge.

I have a 2005 dodge neon sxt, in the morning when I start it up I hear a loud knocking noise from the engine but after about 15 seconds it gets softer but is still there all day when I'm driving around.

It is probably your lifters sticking. Check your engine oil level and if thats fine, then add some oil detergent/additive that says it will "reduce engine knock and free sticky lifters" run with that additive for a couple hundred miles or until the noise gets better. then replce your oil after that without using the additive

May be mice, but I had a truck that did that from a worn speedo cable.
